COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A federal judge in South Carolina has sentenced a man to more than eight years in prison for his role in the manufacture and distribution of steroids.

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Thursday that Christopher Brit Beebe was also sentenced to five years supervised release and a $200 special assessment for conspiracy to distribute steroids and possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

Evidence presented at a change of plea hearing showed Beebe and others manufactured and distributed steroids from 2004 to 2015 throughout the U.S. via the Internet. The conspiracy was discovered when Kershaw County sheriff's deputies responding to a report that Beebe's girlfriend had been shot to death at his home found a large amount of steroids at the house.
