Could be slight bearing imbalance from one leg to the other causing hip flexor to fatigue and burn. I cracked an SI joint in my pelvis a number of years ago, and every now and again it declares anarchy and tries to kill me. My SI will start to hurt, and then my hip will go to shit from compensating. Lunges seem to keep it stretched out for me. You can lean your torso back at the bottom of each lunge movement and really pull on the trailing hip.

Front and side. Muscle or soft tissue I guess. Feels pretty deep.
You may need some NMT work on it. I used to do massage therapy for a living, it's probably severe muscle tightness. Happens when doing weight training for long periods of time without intense muscle stretching, Get some NMT work on it and see if that solves the problem. We have stretch regularly when doing intense weight training.

When I stretch the area, I feel more of the stretch in the inside (front and groin area) while this pain is more front to outer hip. It is most painful in a seated position. Massage and pressure feel good which leads me to believe that it is muscular, or soft tissue related. Unfortunately the location is difficult to stretch or floss or any thing. I am suprised how much it hurts.

Maybe you should get into the groin stretches and try performing splits as best as you can. That could cure it.

I like to lunge between my squat sets:
A) because it sucks
B) keeps my hips from turning to cement

Bad pin maybe? Any skin redness or swelling? Grasping at straws.
