Maybe things this extreme aren't happening everywhere but some of the local teachers I've met out-and-about (in one the the most conservative areas of Wisconsin) have talked openly on their love for Communism and told stories of their vacation in Cuba and how wonderful things are. One friend of mine is actually an ex-high school teacher that quit when Gov Scott Walker got some reforms passed (like them having to chip in for their health insurance).

Glad to hear the parents in your district are highly involved. That's what EVERY district sorely needs. The school boards and the various administrations are counting on the parents being too busy to pay attention to what's going on.

Isn't it funny how in the old days, teachers were so happy when a parent was willing to volunteer in the classroom to give her a hand. Now the last thing the teachers want is for parents to be in the classroom, literally or virtually, to actually see what's going on. Rather, they want to raise your taxes to have a unionized teachers' aide in the room who sticks with the "program."

The mixed messages that are sent to children today are crazy. We tell girls not to have body image issues, then flood them with air brushed images that feed negative body image problems. We tell boys and girls to respect each other's boundaries, yet provide them stories of people ignoring boundaries. And we're feeding hyper-sexualized imagery and information at young ages, sometimes as young as 6-8 when their not emotionally or cognitively ready to deal with such information. It's truly mindblowing.

I don't wish to be a puritanical prude, but I think we're really robbing our children of their childhood by thrusting adult issues into their lives prematurely, whether it's sexual information/images, or other types of information. Your children should not be privy to economic challenges you and your spouse may be having, and marital issues should be dealt with, as best as possible, NOT in front of the children. Their emotional development between ages 5-13 is very important, and I think they're being hit with too much, too soon.
