An Eastern Washington powerlifter has been sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison for importing steroids.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 39-year-old Ryan Shawn Kennelly received a package from India to his post office box in Kennewick containing more than 1,500 anabolic steroid tablets in December 2010. The package was searched by U.S. Post Office Inspectors after receiving a federal warrant.

Two months before the package from India arrived, Grant County authorities had seized steroids from Kennelly's Moses Lake home.

Kennelly was sentenced Thursday. He will also be on a 3-year supervised release after he serves his time in prison. He pleaded guilty in March.

According to the Tri-City Herald, Kennelly once held the World Powerlifting Organization's bench press record in 2008 by pressing 1,075 pounds.

Damn that's unfortunate, sounds like it could have easily been avoided though.

What's the word on this? Is he out yet? Just thought of this today randomly.

Yeah, he's out and competing again. He just did a youtube vid with Chris Duffin where he talks about how he is competing again this year and will be reclaiming the WR bench.

Glad to see Ryan going again. Hope his health is better. I know he was having some issues when going through all this. Reclaiming the world bench press record is great and all but his health should be his priority.

What is LE's way of handling something like this? Not talking about any of the various athletic federations' drug testing policies, but what about any of the various LE jurisdictions that may have put you in for PED's in the first place. Do they impose mandatory testing once you get out?

Well once you do your time they have no authority to require you to be tested.

But he is on supervised release. Is that the same as parole?

Glad to hear he's out. Going to jail for nonviolent drug charges is bullshit.
