Sounds like you're right on target. Had a full tear of my supraspinatus repaired in 2021, and I just tore something in the opposite shoulder (ortho/MRI soon). I can't wait for surgery so I can start the healing process. My first post-surgery went just like yours..it's like they've done a million of these :) You're diligent in your routine, so you'll be better quickly.

Hey Bova, just now saw that you had RC surgery on your left shoulder a few months ago. I truly hope that your recovery is going well. I also just had
RC surgery on my left shoulder as well as a bicep tendinosis. I'm currently 4 weeks post-surgery and eagerly looking forward to the day that I can stop wearing the sling. When you get a chance, update this log with how your progress/recovery is going.

Hey @Anabolic Beast oh wow, great! I mean, i'm sorry lol.
4 weeks post op? OK so you are still stabilized? Was it a bad tear? How long your doc going to keep you stabilized?

OK let me update:

Im now 4 months post surgery and still am in PT.
I started PT at approx 9 weeks post surgery, but i had the CPM machine at home for movement that absolutely attributed to my success on my range of motion!

For the last about 3 weeks, we have been working on strengthening. So gradually increasing weights, reps, different movements, etc.
Let me update some more tomorrow, wanted to do a quick post.

Yes, I'm still wearing the stabilizer sling. I was told I'd have to wear it for six weeks post-surgery. I go back and see the surgeon next week which will be 5 weeks post op, and he'll tell me then when I start PT. I was told after my surgery that my shoulder tear wasn't as bad as it appeared on the MRI. The doctor described it as a medium tear requiring only one anchor.

@Anabolic Beast ok great, sounds like you are on the right track then.....basically just waiting LOL.
While i was in my sling, which was approx 9 weeks post op, i worked on legs in the gym about 2 sometimes 3 times a week. Would do one upper right body for maybe one day a week, sometimes 2. But mostly 1 day a week.

But i also had a cpm machine at home that i had to clock 4 hours a day in....ugh...but am so glad i did it. Really helped with range of motion.

When i first started PT, i would do my home exercises at the gym after doing some cardio.
But def wore my sling when walking around the gym, i was just terrified to accidently use it, like old habits and all that. I think i fully dropped the sling right around 9 weeks i think. Gosh seems so long ago now.

I was so happy just last week i loaded one 45 lb plate onto the seated hamstring curl machine....wooohooo.....but anything above the waste, my trainer lifts it for now.

For me, those pendulum movements with arm feel sooooo good. Can you do them right now? If not, maybe ask the doc. Also when my PT stretches me out....soooo goood. After my PT sessions when they first started, we would do ice and the electrode machine (name??), but these past few weeks, haven't been icing afterward.

I still do PT twice a week now and do the homework on my own at the gym. I had a complication with my elbow and now that we are working on strengthening the shoulder, my elbow been throwing me fits....so my PT has been working on that as well. We have done 2 needling sessions so far. I've also been shooting BPC 157 and TB500 in there a couple times a week as well. Such a difference. The elbow has some gnarly arthritis.....UGH.
Just last week the PT had me do dumbell presses while laying on the floor.....felt good, was hard but felt good LOL.

Stretching the shoulder and upper back/trap area is super important!

Um....let's see, what else you want to know? Let me think......

Interesting that a CPM machine was used. I didn't know what it was, had to look it up--continuous passive motion.
2 years ago I had a complete shoulder replacement. The doctor was top notch. Patents, informative videos, uses latest hardware. He never mentioned use of a CPM and my results were beyond expectations. I did use an ice machine for several days. Range of motion was restored with a good PT and standard stretches and exercises. It's as if I never had problems with that shoulder. Google results (AI) mentioned that CPMs are "... no longer widely used because studies show they don't improve recovery after surgery."

@norm sounds like you had great success without the cpm, that is great!

Update: Just yesterday during PT, we started doing db overhead presses....wow! Used 3lbs for impacted shoulder and 6# for the good shoulder lol. Felt good and manageable at that weight. Doubt i may be doing more ofthese, but who knows!

Looking like just a couple more weeks of PT and might be done with PT.. I'm about to graduate!!!

At the gym, i've added some more weight to my impacted arm side (on chest presses, pec fly, reverse pec deck). Been feeling good.

I started seeing a PT last Thursday and had my second PT session yesterday. Before this I was just doing pendulum exercises every day at home. My physical therapist said that my range of motion is ahead of where he expected it to be at this point post-surgery. Today is also six weeks post-op and I can now stop wearing the sling. I see the physical therapist again tomorrow and he told me last session that this coming session will be more intensive. Guess I'll find out tomorrow what that's going to entail. Oh well, the path to recovery is paved in pain.

6 mos update:

Saw the surgeon last week, don't need to see him again until something is wrong. He of cours told me to take it easy until the 1 year mark. Will see if i can do that LOL.

Graduated from PT, last official day was today and all he did was measurements and we walked through some good warm up routines i can do before upper body days.

In general i feel really good, strength is getting there. I suspect i may be back at full strength before the 1 year mark. In certain movements it acts up, but nothing bad.
i'm still doing BPC 157 and TBD 500, but have gone down to like a couple days a week on that.

My focus is now is to lose this fat I gained....oh boy i put on more than i wanted to, but didn't realize. So i'm puttin in the work now to get it off.

Cheers...

Glad to hear that your shoulder is doing well and that you’ve graduated from PT. Listen to your doctor and don’t rush the process. That’s what I keep telling myself. Today was my first strength training PT session. It was very humbling to get my ass kicked by a one pound pink dumbbell!
