I’m curious to hear some feedback from any of you who have used / are using Propranolol for any of the following reasons: hypertension/bp, anxiety, elevated heart rate.
I’m interested in use of it for myself for one or more of those reasons and it would be helpful to hear some firsthand feedback.
Thank you

I've used a generic at 20mg to see how it affected my nerves prior to formal business presentations. I noticed an obvious decrease in felt BP, heart rate, and all around general anxiousness. I can go into more details if you have any more specific questions about it. Didn't make me tired, just a little bit more calm overall.

That’s good to hear. Helpful feedback. I appreciate it, thank you

I take 20 mg am and 30 mg pm with 10 mg lisinopril. Mostly essential tremor related, genetic from my dad, helps with BP and at that dosing and timing, doesn't affect workouts or cardio that's noticeable.

Beta Blockers can cause ED (while drug is active in your system). Not a deal breaker but something you need for an informed decision. Many younger patients won't take them for that reason.

For sure. One reason that I use Trimix if I want a porn star evening. Another reason I like propranolol, shorter half life and I can tolerate being off for a couple days unless I need to do something that hand tremor will make impossible and that I can't use bourbon to fix.

Gentlemen, thank you for responding with your experience. It’s all helpful.
I went with 50mg extended release Metoprolol for a two week trial run. My interest for use is that I’ve been running an elevated heart rate and anxiety has been high.
Propranolol crosses the blood brain barrier —- directly acting on brain chemistry for a more pronounced therapeutic impact on anxiety, but I’ve reasoned that if I’m able to lower my heart rate via Metoprolol, I’m pretty certain my buzzy sensation anxiety will ease without having to directly impact the brain.
Hope that makes sense.

Obvious question but did you have other causes of an elevated HR ruled out? Echo to make sure systolic/diastolic function is normal?

Yup. BP is normal. Metabolic function overall good, CV system, kidneys, liver, pancreas….
My Atria chambers are just being funky. Quite common — not a great concern at this time, just keeping HR under control ought to be quite helpful. Can try other things future if need be, but no real concerns at this point.

I used to have problems similar to that. Tachs that came on for no reason along with elevated BP, often times at night. R/O sleep apnea, no other explanation. Also frequent PACs and PVCs. It all started to resolve when I added 10 mg of lisinopril about 1 1/2 years ago, this was in addition to the beta-blocker. Now I have few issues. IMO ANG II is the devil esp if one is using androgens HRT or otherwise.

I take 60mg propranolol morning and 20 mg primed one at night for tremors. Dris still trying to get dosing set. Haven't been seeing him (Neurologist) that long. Some improvement so far but still not right. I'm also been treated foranxiety and depression, around 25 yrs plus. You'll be happy to know my bp is totally fine.
So

Thank you for your input, SD.
I hope you’re able to optimize relief for the issues that remain for you. At least you’ve gained “some” useful benefit up to this point. That’s great!
