In the Corp 1990, we had PCP. (Pork Chop Platoon) which actually stood for Physical conditioning platoon. If after a few weeks IN boot, you failed the initial PFT,
they sent you to PCP. I've heard of recruits that were in their for months. We picked a few up along the way that tried hard and put in the work that eventually graduated. The fat, lazy fuckers, most were just discharged with an ELS (Entry Level Separation) You didn't want to be at Parris Island out of shape.

Also the weight thing is stupid too. I think I was supposed to be 219 pounds for my age range and 76 inch height. But as we know weight isn’t a great measure of physical fitness especially if you are muscular. Glad I dropped 25 or so pounds before I got there. Even though my recruiter (who was the best teacher I’ve ever had son) said don’t worry about weight they’ll get you sorted.
Anyone who has ever been in the service knows that recruiters are scumbag liars who should never be trusted

I figured they’d just move em’ out west to do bootcamp there. Make them Hollywood marines…

They still have PCP. If you fail your IST, initial PFT/CFT or final PFT/CFT you will get sent to PCP. Also, if you get injured and dropped to Medical Rehabilitation Platoon you will go through PCP before getting sent back to a training platoon.

Marines have as well. About every 10 years they increase the requirements to match the fitness of the force. We always talk about how the younger generations are softer, but I can attest they do perform better on the fitness tests as an average. My individual event scores to attain a perfect 300 25 years ago would only score in the 280's on today's standards.
