Ok guys I know nothing about this stuff so please help me figure this out. My dad has a little hand held scanner he enjoys listening to but recently everything seems to have switched to digital so it won’t pick up the local PD & other emergency responders. I want to get him a new one but it seems like the frequencies used have a lot to do with which scanner picks up what. How the hell do I know what frequency is being used if this is even a true statement. ANY help is appreciated, my dad doesn’t ask for much so I don’t want to let him down! Thanks to ALL that contribute!

There is a Facebook group for my local scanner. Not sure how it works, if its automatic or if some Gladys Kravitz just sits there and transcribes it or whatever. Anyway, its the scanner I use...
