I currently live in central Me. and have want to live in a warmer climate close to the beach. A yr. ago I returned to Me. from an attempt to live in Vegas. I was there for a yr. and was not for me. After I got back I got a job inspecting homes for insurance co. It's a 1099 job so I have no boss, work the hrs. I want, etc. There was an opening in Virginia Beach that I tried to get moved to but they hired someone new. Not sure why but I'm thinking I'm gonna have to take a site that's open in Virginia and request a transfer when V.B. opens back up.
Right now Alexandria, Lynchburg, Salisbury, and Danville is open. I don't have to live there so I figured I could live half way to V.B. and take advantage of the beach until it becomes available. One thing I noticed is there doesn't seem to be any lakes in Va. like in Me. but Me. has like 3-4 mo. of summer.
For those in the know, which town would you recommend until V.B. opens up. THANKS!!!

Lynchburg is a cool town it is a college city with Liberty University being there. Danville is growing they are opening up a casino with a high end hotel attached to it next month. Both towns have some nice gyms.

just depends on what you want outside of work. Alexandria you are going to have the city style life, lynchburg isnt bad...its growing and routinely gaining things to do, like Jakced noted - Liberty plays a big role into additions in that town. Laid back but still lot to do, you're not far from the interstate so can get in and out as you want. Danville same way, you have both worlds out there. close to the NC/SC border but personally, wouldnt wanna live in Danville.

curios.... you inspecting for like an underwriting perspective? commercial? or damage assessment? I know a lot of these people that do that job

Pretty easy. My girls son goes to liberty he and his gf just got a really nice apartment has a pool dog park etc.. nice neighborhood

That area is growing so much that you should not have trouble finding a nice rental with great amenities.

10-4 know exactly. Worked for I think 3 of them. Whats nice is you can actually work for several different ones at the same time, just have to able to keep up with your work load.

Thing is that I'm on disability and I get the max amount of $3000 untaxed. The most I can make on the side is $1200.

If I was going to live in VA, I would probably live in Stafford. Really nice area, you can live in the country and 5 minutes later have all the amenities you want. It can be kind of pricey, as it is Marine town USA, so BAH levels drive up the cost of housing. I am sure a median family home is around 2.5-3k a month.
