Regarding tariffs, I agree static tariffs raise prices and are likely inflationary. In a static analysis . A legit threat of tariffs, however, can lead to a more genuine free trade that benefits both trade partners.
the goal is to further free trade and tariffs are a tool in the toolbox. Previous trade agreements did not appear very symmetric
This I completely agree with. I love free (fair) trade. Now, if Trump is using this as a bargaining position, to start, then fine. But I fear that most countries know this, so the bargaining position is lose.
But maybe it isn't.
I am no fan of China. The Chinese people are fine, they work hard.. They are supporting families like we are. But the Chinese government will not allow US products to have a level playing field there.
I could go on and on about Chinese practicing. I spent over $20,000 defending my intellectual property from a Chinese company. The Chinese company started cloning my products and selling them online. I own this trademark/patent. Most Americans do now know this, but the Chinese government subsidizes intellectual property thieves in China. Actually pays them a subsidy to attempt to steal US intellectual property. That shit needs to stop. That was $20,000 I should not have had to spend if they were playing by the rules.
My product ratings are constantly being sabotages by the Chinese. The play so many sneaky games I actually have software specifically signed to notice their attempts. Another expense I should not have to pay.
I encourage Trump to level the playing field. And protect our ideas. It disincentivizes me from creating now products when the products are immediately cloned. Ughh...
