Without aid (arms supply), Ukraine was long ago depleted of all its own. Same goes for enough competent, capable military personnel of its own.
This is definitely a proxy war. The Unites States and Russia are at war.

I was just talking to a Russian friend's kid (he is 19) about this. He is a great kid with a bright future., I hope this situation is over before he is called up. He is a top student in computer science at his university. He's a friendly, smiling, happy go lucky kid. He has a childhood sweetheart he is still with since they were 13. He loves hamburgers, American hip hop, Hollywood movies. He wants to travel to America and see the country. He has heard me talk about BBQ ribs in Texas, fishing in the Keys, the Grand Canyon, Broadway lights. So many dreams. It will break me if I ever have to attend his funeral.

Unlike most people, I am beginning to think there are no good guys. Just bad guys. Maybe I'm getting pessimistic in my old age. But international politics is a Machiavellian struggle.

I also have Ukrainian friends. A few of the Russian friends and Ukrainians friends are friends with each other. None of them want to kill each other. This whole thing is tragic.

I agree with this.

The U.S. military industry will be happy for this war to continue until there are no living Ukrainians left. When two countries go to war, it nice to be the guy who makes/sells bullets. And since you need that ammo to be expedited, we'll charge you a premium!

I've heard differing statistics, but something like 25-30% of Ukranian males of military age are dead. And when I say military age, not 18-24, I'm talking 18-44.

Russia isn’t / hasn’t been fighting “Ukraine.” Ukraine IF standing on its own legs, would have been 100% done / defeated within a month. The US and western allied coalition have been keeping Ukraine on life support 100%. Ukraine was long ago defeated.
horse shit

For all those who can't wait for war.......ask those who have actually been in a war how much fun it was.

ANKARA: The United States and Russia are very close to engaging in “direct military conflict,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned in an interview published Friday in a Turkey daily, just days ahead of a US presidential election.
“Under the current president (Joe Biden), who has taken the downward spiral of Russophobia in the US to its logical conclusion, our countries are on the brink of direct military conflict,” he told the Hurriyet daily, without elaborating.

Not sure what Lavrov is talking about. Russia is up to its eyeballs in crap, they've shown themselves to be a second rate military power, needing North Korean conscripts, and they're rattling their sabres? Don't know who the intended audience is in Russia, but most of the world is laughing at Russia. The only thing they've got is nuclear weapons, that is, if they still work.

What happens if 50% of the North Korean soldiers surrender and defect? It'd be the first time in years they'd get three squares a day, and they're finally out of their gulag. Both Russia and North Korea are taking big risks. Russia clearly needs bodies, as Putin is feeling domestic pressure as young Russians come home in body bags, and North Korea is broke. Those soldiers will never see a penny, but the regime gets free fuel and who knows what else.

But this North Korea development is not good for anyone. Bringing foreign soldiers into the conflict starts to look like the beginning of WWI. Not good.

Exactly, this current administration has all but dragged the USA into WWIII. No one will win if this happens. Its time this whole mess is squashed. Quit sending weapons to Ukraine and quit funding Iran. Its time America end these proxy wars. We need to get rid of all the war mongers in government.

The N Koreans weee welcomed to be trained since Russia has strengthened ties / agreements with them.
The whole world is laughing at Russia?
Thats why BRICS is developing as rapidly as it is and with such great interest?
US hegemony is on its last desperate breaths actually. On the verge of bankruptcy, and more desperate to retain power than ever in its history. Currently the US is spread too thin with conflict involvements.
Let’s hope there’s not a direct Russia / US war. Short of nuclear, neither side can defeat the other in a conventional war fought from their respective territories.

Hey TB, you may be correct, but I'm not sure you are. Russia should have walked all over Ukraine, but have not done so. Are they winning? Yes. But they've shown their equipment, comms, logistics, tactics, to be JV, at best. They don't want to get into a conventional war with anyone right now. They're low on equipment, spare part, ammunition, etc.

Russia gave NATO a front row seat to their capabilities. That's not good for them.

I agree with you that the US is on the verge of bankruptcy in the next 30 years. Russia in the next 10 years, and a good portion of BRICS in the next 10 years.

Russia should find a way to claim victory in Ukraine (as should the US and Ukraine), draw new lines and send everyone home. Then they should get back to the only thing they know how to do, and that is export energy. Bring that cash back home and get their house back in order. US should never have gotten involved in the first place. So stupid, and the crazy thing is that any sane discussion of the topic got you labelled as a Putin puppet, which is so moronic.
