Ever since I had it out with the new gym owner and quit working there Ive been searching for a new part time job. I am on disability but am trying to find a job I can tolerate and hopefully work my way back to full time. One job was driving military recruits from where I live to approx. 2 hrs away for there entrance exam. Good pay and great hrs but the CDL exam turned out to be a major pain in my ass and I don't want to have to deal with this every yr due to having hbp so I took a job at a local casino doing security. There back ground check was as extensive as Ive ever experienced. first time in 40 yrs ive been asked for my dd214. Seems pretty laid back but you don't get to put hands on anyone cause you have to call the police. Most of the guys doing security are about 100yrs old so no back-up if something does go down. At least I can transfer to pretty much any part of the country as they have casino's all over the US, which is my plan eventually.

Casinos are not going away in your lifetime. Sounds like a good gig. Keep up the strive.

Old guys retire which means job security for you and the ability to relocate to nearly anywhere in the country is a really nice option imho.

Honestly, stay in and move to another state if you want! I’m working with some people that used to work for casinos in other states before that whole expansion in the 80’s and 90’s.

The benefits are amazing and the casinos are really good to the employees, better than anything I’ve ever heard of from any other business. So take full advantage and good luck!

I only ran into casino security once. A group of us went after bar time and one of the guys basically passed out drunk on the way. After being there a while we heard a couple pages on the speakers asking for one of the guys who came in. We found him (he was best buds with the drunk guy) and he said he was probably just screwing around, so we left him to go find out what was going on. Found security who said our buddy had the door open and was sitting with his legs out and an alcohol bottle visible. They said they warned him to get back in the car but he got belligerent (guy had an attitude even sober) so they had to call the police, who now had him in the drunk tank.

To me they did their best to smooth things and when they had to get serious they left it to the po-po.

I'm thinking casino security is mostly pretty laid back. Plus you might get to see some pretty cool concerts and other shows.

Ya, so far so good. I love the environment there, everybody is super positive and helpful. Supervisors have the attitude that they work for us which is awesome. They do train us to do everything we can to get people home safe but hands off. If it gets serious back off and call pd. Casinos are not the place to go to get drunk, if we see any sign of intoxication we either cut em off or ask them to leave. We have to make sure they do not drive, if they do we call pd. We have an on site State employee watching us 24/7 looking to cash in on every fine possible.

It is not uncommon for schoolchildren to try part-time work, and their parents don't mind that their child tries on adult life, understand the value of money, and spend their time in a useful way. In any case, it can definitely be planned for the vacations.
