Nice! I have 2 more week on crutches (I will get the official word tomorrow) and then I will be back to doing upper body. That will be a little over 17 weeks post shoulder surgery. But I have pubic pain and sports hernia MRI was negative, so I may have what is called osteitis pubis, but the problem is I have not been doing anything for really about a year so in theory it should have healed anyway...

Agreed, slow ans steady wins our race.

I did take a seminar and learned that grafts from cadavers for ACL repair have been shown to have the highest rates of failure. Seems your own patellar tendon turned out the best option after all. For a while cadaver grafts were very popular and all the athletes I worked with had them.

Also had a seminar on overuse injuries and research still supports that it is not an inflammatory condition and NSAIDS actually impede recovery (and to add we should not be using them regulary anyway as they also impede hypertrophy).

Heal up! That's a long looong recovery and I'd be bat-shit crazy by then, or at a minimum, divorced. My son had an ACL, MCL repair, 9 months until he was cleared to play baseball again.

Here's what I know about NSAIDS use; Double up the dose for 3 days to keep down the inflammation while using R.I.C.E. , after that, you need to just let the body heal on its own.

Thanks! Unfortunately my leg in a brace time is extended until the 24th.

I have lifted in a brace before, but that was a quad trim up job (debridement), no screw plaved in my kneecap. I may sneak in for some upper body before then, but not like waiting another week or so is going to hurt me at this point.

The other Snake, yes, that is about the time to heal for an ACLR. If I planned on doing any sports or olympic lifting I would be out for around that long for the shoulder and then the knee. I am just going to lift, so I will be back faster. Obvioulsy, any high velocity limb movements or impact will take longer than just getting it done in the gym.

I tag teamed my knee 2nd post op visit with a pain intervention specialist for the sciatica and also for the pubic pain, but if it is osteitis pubis there really is nothing for it, as injections are not shown to help.

Unfortunately I no longer live in a big metro area with professional sports teams. Those metro areas have orthopods that are highly specialized, as in a knee guy, a groin guy, a shoulder guy...

Here is to a super great 2020 for all of us! Let us try to stay healthy in the coming year!

Finally got a 45 on the bar for bench! Yup, I now can do 135 for 12 reps in the bench with almost no discomfort.

Working on my shoulder flexibility to go low bar in the squat. Actually got there last week but damn it didn't feel good even with 185 on the bar.

Hope everyone had a nice New Year and here's to better days ahead.

Congrats brother! Hey, you do not have to like it, but a win is a win!

What are you doing to address the shoulder flexibility issue?

Stretching it out 2x/day. It's a slow go. I did get back under a bar yesterday for squats but it was uncomfortable in the shoulder.

Things have been moving slowly forward so 2 weeks a go, I tried inclines with the bar, all went well. This week I went up to 95, that did not go so well. I'm going to have to shelf inclines for awhile. Guess you never know how much is enough until you know how much is too much.

On a good note, the low bar squats felt a little better.

Safety squat bar?
Or cheaper option, spud inc has a strap that attaches to any barbell.
