Fuel surcharges? Would make sense w/ the rising cost of gas and maybe federal wage hikes?

I know, it’s insane. It’s been high for the last year. And it’s not like you get a better delivery time now either. It’s $9 for 3-4 days. I remember when express also used to be overnighted, now it’s 2-3 days.

Theyve been raising prices slowly every year, a small flat rate use to be 5.95 and now its all the way up to 8.65 or something like that a medium use to run 12ish and now is up to 16-18? Wouldnt be surprised if next year youre looking at 15$ to ship a small and 20-25$ for mediums.

The USPS is the main driver of inflation for me (e-commerce). So the pain is real. We spent over $125,000 with USPS last year. The year before we spent around $75,000. Our business increased about 22% during the same period. So USPS is now costing me more than any one of my parts vendor's are costing me.

Add to that the fact that the USPS is losing about 1 in every 350 packages I ship. Packages just go poof, disappear and are gone, never to be seen again. That's around $7500 a year lost in the mail, counting product, packaging and shipping. Not to mention time lost paying the employee to package the item.

Then there's the lazy workers who just mark packages as "unable to forward." Packages destroyed in equipment. Late deliveries which infuriate my customers. Packages put in the wrong mailbox which only show up after I've bit the bullet and reshipped the customer a second package.

I'm stuck with the USPS though. Most of the items I ship are ounces. Until UPS or Fedex has a service as cheap as First Class Package I'm married to them.

These days it feels like we pay much more for a slower delivery time.

Family members send small packs to me in NY from OH and the shipping costs more than the contents are worth!

As a business owner, I've noticed that postage prices have gone up lately.

Yeah,m th esmall box went from $6-something to $9-something. But the service and on time delivery has declined significantly so it balances out LMFAO. Seriously 3 day takes 4-5 and next day takes 2-3. It's bs.

Prices increase almost yearly.

By 2018 the FCM package rates (small packs up to 15.9oz) became double what it was in 2011.

In 2022, FCM package rates are over 45% higher now than they were in 2018.

That's business pricing...which is discounted from retail, obviously.
