I also train bjj, when I'm cutting wait for a competition i gradually lower the amount of carbs I consume and completely cut out sugar from my diet, including fruits. I found that doing this over 2 weeks I see considerable results and still feel fine for competition. Doing it day by day will allow your body to adjust rather than shocking the system all at once.
