Hey guys and gals first post here. This looks like a fantastic place to far. So I'm interested in doing something a bit odd. I want to have disgustingly large forearms and relatively normal everything else. I dont know if this is possible or safe but its something I cant seem to get out of my head. I love forearms as a body part and there's nothing like the pump for me than when I look at em in the gym.
As far as training goes I have tied a 15 lb dumbell to a rope and then the rope to a dowel and have been twisting those up about 2 times a week to failure for 3 sets. What I would like to do is to do those twice a day 3 sets each and do those 3 days on 1 day off. Then do another exercise along with it to work the inside of the forearm. While Ill be playing with that routine on my own a bit I am interested to see what you all come up with. If I were to say to you: Design me a program to grow my forearms as fast and as large as possible, what would the reply be? My goal is to hit 15 inches in the next 2-3 years. I'm willing to put in whatever work necessary.
Physiological stats-16 inch biceps,13.25 forearms (cold). height 5'11" weight 201 lbs. Started lifting again about 2 months ago. Loving the hell out of it. Lets have some fun with this. Im kind of excited to see where it will lead. Hope this finds you all well,
Bond

One I use for grip-forearm strength-
Grab a 45 lb plate in each hand.
Not the holes but grip them. Try holding for as long as you can and as tight as you can.

You might be able to angle a reply outta Richard Sorin, the retired founder of Sorinex, now run by his son Bert. Richard has the same sick twisted mind that you do, although he tends to focus on what his forearms can do rather than how they look. One of his stunts was what rAJJIN said, except he grabbed 2 in his hand, the old, thicker York plates. Grip people tend to specialize, and they tend to hear about each other from across the country. Sorin's main claim to fame was on the Captain Crush grippers. He once had a nail-bending specialist visit him from somewhere, brought his own bag of various nails. The 2 of them spent hours in discussion, showing off, and teaching each other the tricks of each specialty while a few of us gym rats looked on, this was not Planet Fitness btw.

hahaha Raw thank you I will reach out to Richard and see what he has to say. My first question I suppose would be- can I work them out every day. My second question would be can I work them out twice a day to exhaustion. I know with most muscle groups you cant get by with doing this but always seem to remember there are some like abs and calves where you can punish them every day and all they do is grow. I would love to start documenting this as I think itll be a fun one to follow. Ill likely start in a few weeks after im back from my honeymoon where I can devote some time and attention to it. Until then, learn learn learn. Thanks for the advice so far

My forearms are big. Its been my experience you can beat the crap out of forearms.

Daily is ok but its not necessary especially if you have any kind of respectable back routine. Back when I was competing in wrestling I wanted to have a grip that no one could escape. For the most part, I accomplished that and have large forearms as a result. There are some pretty cool devices out there now that I havent tried but would love to hear about (hint hint). But the old school spring mounted grip flexers are nice. Personally the dowl method and a tennis ball is the best Ive found. You're on the right track but you need to use the dowel method more. 15 lbs is plenty BTW. I also like to take a 35lb dumbell and curl to failure once a week. Failure as in that you cannot pick the SOB up again kind of failure and need help getting your keys out of your pocket.

If you want to get real hard core....hang some damp towels off your pull up bar and do pull ups with the towel wadded in your hands. JiuJitsu and Judo guys do this with their wet gi's then drape them over the pull up bar and grab the lapel and do pull ups. It works.

So...I was going to write this off as a bullshit thread, but you seem to be a genuine freak, and I respect that. I work in a very physical trade. One of the rites of passage, if you will, is a sledge hammer tilt. Go buy an 8lb sledge with a standard 34-36" handle length. Grasp the very bottom of the handle with one hand and with arm extended, hold the hammer perpendicularly (hammer head up) to both your arm and the floor. Tilt the hammer forward until it is parallel with your arm (and the floor). Tilt the hammer backward until it returns to perpendicular. Once you've got it, buy a heavier hammer.
Note: if you want to get fancy, tilt the hammer backward (instead of forward) and barely touch the tip of your nose.

Farmers and work performed with an axle should help develop thick, muscular forearms. Deadlift, OHP, BOR, etc all with the axle.

BGH- good to know I can go at it daily. Love stuff I can obsess over and get momentum on. Let me know what these pretty cool devices are and Ill put them on the list. Ive been thinking about all these exercises and what to do with them or how to integrate them and give them a fair shake. Best to be systematic id imagine. I think itd be wise to start like base program for two to 3 weeks and get a patter going then start branching out and cataloging results. Biceps have gotta be my favorite exercise gotta love the feeling of being functionally handycap for a few days. That wet towel method is gonna get me the greatest looks at the gym god I cant wait. lmao

May0- I hear you on the physical job. Im a wood turner/carver by trade and pretty much my entire day is grasping a tool (commence dick jokes in 5,4,3...) There are plenty of days when I get outa the shop and I absolutely cant pick up a pencil. You wanna see something funny go to a woodturners convention and check out the old ladys with cock diesel vascular as hell forearms. If found though that this kind of workout for the forearms makes them strong for long periods rather than strong in short bursts much like a sprinter vs a marathon runner. But we are going for size here and sprinters seem to win in the size dept. That challenge sounds like an insane one and it blows my mind that anyone can do it much less move up a size. Very impressive to be sure. One day... one day...

Brother iron you may have to help me out with some of these acronyms. I know what a dead lift is OHP im going with over head press? Couldnt figure out BOR. Ill look up an axel. either way I think integrating forearms stressing exercises into my daily regimen is incredible smart. I do thing though that we may run into the problem of getting to the point where my forearms are failing wayyyyy before my back or legs or whatever im working out. Nothing a little organization cant fix.

Raw I dont know if you are out there but I got your PM brother but there's one problem. I cant for the life of me find the reply button. I know this is going to get me a six second eye roll but if someone could kindly direct me to the reply button via screen shot or whatever thatd be awesome. Its a miracle I get out of bed some days I tell you what.

So this upcoming couple weeks Im gettin hitched n headed out to montana where the internet is just making its debut. Either way Ill probably start everything as soon as we get back...Just didnt want the radio silence to make ya think id bounced. Ill bring my tennis ball and grippers along. I dont know if security would take a dumbell but I suppose we could always find out. As always thanks for the info and thoughts they are much appreciated to be sure.
