I'm thinking about going to a TRT Specialist since my levels are low & I was wondering if testosterone can cause cancer? Both my grandfather & my dad died from prostate cancer that spread to the bone. I haven't done any cycles since 2006 & I don't want to up my possibility of getting cancer. Thanks for you input gentlemen!

I seem to remember reading that Test can accelerate the growth of pre-existing prostate cancer, but not a cause where no cancer is already present. I'm not a doc, but that would be a distinction that can be used as a starting point when talking to a real doc or doing online research on medical sites like webmd, etc.

Low test is a risk factor for prostate cancer. Stay on top of your screenings if it's in the family.

I read the book "The Testosterone Syndrome"

http://www.amazon.com/The-Testosterone-Syndrome-SexualityReversing-Menopause/dp/087131858X

It had a chapter on addressing the study that came out that suggested a link and debunked it. I'm no doc, but I don't believe there's anything that links exogenous testosterone supplementation and a "cause" of prostate cancer. Talking to the TRT specialist is the best thing as he/she will be up on the latest studies of these things.

my doc is a hematology and oncology doctor.

he wants me to reduce my test as much as I can since I have 2 blood clots but never once mentioned a cancer risk.

From my memory I think the early belive that it can lead to prostate cancer came from assumptions and that later research debunked that.
But like the much smarter poster above me I recommend to talk to the TRT specialist, also do some research.
The board seems to ignore all that not favorable to our usage so I take all of it with some sceptecism.

There is no clinical link to prostrate cancer caused from test. I think where the confusion comes from is if you already have cancer, they will not give you T. They want to deprive you of test as it helps in combating Prostrate cancer with treatments. Seems cells feed off the test. POB is right , there is a study linking low T in older men to prostrated cancer

I'm thinking elevated estrogen can contribute to an enlarged prostate. Low test and high estrogens go hand in hand.
