The Gainesville-based Georgia IronDawgs Powerlifting Team claimed the team bench press title on Saturday at the American Powerlifting Committee’s Ninth Annual America’s Cup Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships, marking the third out of three competitions the team has won this year.

Gainesville resident Tim “T” Moon, a member of all three winning squads, set a Master Men’s 46-49-year-old, 275-pound weight class record with a lift of 640 pounds despite weighing in at less than 260 pounds.

“It gives other guys something to shoot at now,” Moon said.

Oakwood resident R. Garry Glenn, in his first meet since major hip surgery in March, lifted 172.5 pounds to take the Cup title in the MM 55-59, 198 class.

Glenn and Moon are both graduates of Jefferson High.

Andy Williamson of Winterville benched 441 pounds to win the MM 45-49 221 class.

In the 125 kg Open Class, Tony Braswell of Eastman finished second in the full-power class with 1,870 pounds in the squat, bench and dead lifts combined.
