I agree, Russia is asshole! At the same time, I'm still trying to figure out why we're so vested in Ukraine? I understand it's a large agricultural exporter, but I think they export primarily to Europe and Africa, and so we don't have a huge national interest in that.Coming from Russia it means nothing. Its a country who dont give a fuck about human rights or civil rights.
Ran by a dictator who kills or imprison his opponents.
I suppose from a military perspective, the war has given us a front row seat on understanding Russia's military tactics, their communications, their supply chain capabilities, their weapons capabilities, etc. But I think by now we've learned all we need to know. Why continue to shuttle all that money over there when it looks like Ukraine will ultimately lose in a slow grind. What's our goal in that? And what happens to Ukraine after, when 30% or more of it's military age male population is gone?
And why is the US funding most of this, when this war is right on Europe's doorstep? I'd think they've got much more interest in containing Russian aggression in Ukraine than we do, and yet they seem happy to throw in a pittance compared to what we're doing. Saying this is a NATO thing doesn't make sense, as Ukraine is not a NATO member. Sure, with Russia in Ukraine, they're on Poland's doorstep, but I don't see any real threat to Poland, and they are a NATO member and I think NATO would invoke Article V in response to any aggression.
My most cynical instincts tell me that the military contractors are making it very lucrative for Congress and the WH to send billions of dollars of military equipment to Ukraine. For them, war is good, and more war is "gooder." Bunch of bastards.
