ok so im 34 years old. dont know if age has crap to do with it. left hip is tight to were it feels like it always has to pop at the top near the waist. I am assuming tight hip flexor but I also am having lower back issues. I am a little overweight I will admit. Trying to find exercises to help with the problem. I have been told a foam roller will help along with making sure that I have good form on squats. I am trying to find ways to also loosen it up so I can pop it to relieve some of the pressure and pain or will that come with time? any input is greatly appreciated.

I like long stride, walking lunges. Each time you reach the 'bottom' of the movement, lean back with as straight a spine as possible. You'll feel the tension in your anterior hip of your trailing leg.

Same as Mayo, I have always used rear leg elevated split squats to do the same.

Here are some stretches for your primary hip flexors (psoas and iliacus). Give them a try. Hope they help.
