I can't thank you fellas enough!!! Just one more question, should the kids be training going fast on the concentric portion of the lift and slow on the eccentric? Or just explosive both on the con/ecen?
Interesting and great advice in this thread. My 2 cents. I would think you would already know this being a lifter yourself, just watch for them using the momentum of the eccentric to bounce into the concentric. Explosive but controlled concentric (not just throwing the weight around even when doing light warmups), and controlled eccentric also. Maybe a 1 to 3 sec count. 1 sec concentric with a 3 sec eccentric. It’s my understanding the more explosive you are on the concentric the more muscle fibers are recruited. The negative should not be disregarded through, imo. It adds more time under tension and will increase muscle strength/ endurance. Get best of both worlds I would think. Never a coach but I played football when I was a youngan.
