I know a lot of us have them. As we get older this is more and more common. I was first treated in 2000 (early 40's) for systolic high blood pressure. Recently it got a little worse so I went to see a cardiologist. I have had the following test run:

1. 12 lead EKG
2. Nuclear medicine study done using exercise
3, Exercise stress test
4. US heart contrast with 3D
5. US Vascular heart screen +
6. CT heart scan with calcium evaluation

All in all I have very mild plaque and all else is normal. So I am taking an ACE inhibitor, ARB, HCTZ, plus a statin. So far my systolic pressure has dropped 10 points in a month. The doctor wanted me to continue HRT. He said there were just to many positive benefits.

So I found an excellent web page (see below) that talks about all of this stuff dealing with BB who use anabolic steroids and what can be done. It seem common that we all may have higher systolic BP and lots of it may be due to highly intense training. Nitric oxide (use low dose cialis) level appear to be involved as well as high levels of cortisol. His suggestions of medications are exactly what was prescribed to me. Plus, he suggest we all take a supplement called nattokinase. Nattokinase in a natural enzyme found in a Japanese food called natto which "thins the blood" and helps break up blood clots and plaque. This might protect against heart disease and conditions caused by blood clots such as stroke, heart attack, and others.

I lived in Japan for 3 months on business back in 1996, and since I could eat just about anything, the guys I worked with made it their mission to find me something so icky I couldn't eat it. Natto was it! LOL

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nattō

The way I ate it was sushi rice wrapped in seaweed with natto over the rice, and a raw egg on top of the natto. The smell of the rancid bean curd with the slimy texture of the raw egg just about made me hurl. LOL I couldn't put it down the hatch... The guys saw this as their personal victory. On the positive side, they also gave me raw horse meat, and a shot of turtle blood. LOL The one other thing I never developed a taste for was uni (sea urchin). Looks like a wet dog pile, and didn't taste much better, IMO. But most people are convinced that I just haven't had good uni.

Sorry to hijack your thread BT. I'll take a look for the supp, as my BP has been on the high side of normal (more like on the low side of too high) for a long time.

Hahaha.....most of that shit they eat in Asia I would not touch. I can't even stand tofu either. Interestingly enough my father lived in Hirosaki City, Japan after WWII. His father was a Colonel and the US Army put them in a rented home owned by Prince Kenihi Fujita. They gave my grandfather quite a few Japanese antiques which turned out to be worth lots of money. Two of the paintings are by Sesshu Toyo. I kind of want to take this stuff back and give it to the Fujita family museum and at least see the home he lived in but other than that.

My BP has been around 140/70 for years. Since the 1st of the year it shot up to 157/70. I figured it was time to solve this. I have it back down to 144/70 now and just started taking a statin. The plaque thing kind of scared me.

I have been on a number of ARB's and I have had blood pressure as high as 175 over 110 during episodes of what is called a hypertensive emergency. I also have a tiny bit of plaque in my heart as well, buy statin's make me short of breath, even red rice yeast. But my type of metabolism demands protein and very little carbs. So I take every OTC things I can and do a lot of cardi and my level stay good. Any amount of testosterone or any other gear raises my blood pressure...

Been on the statin (Lipitor) for 5 weeks now. Had blood work done last week.
Cholesterol 112 mg/dL ....<200 mg/dL (Feb - 185)
Triglycerides 68 mg/dL ....<150 mg/dL (Feb - 73)
HDL cholesterol 54 mg/dL ....>40 mg/dL (Feb - 51.7)
LDL cholesterol 58 mg/dL ....<100 mg/dL (Feb - 118)

VERY GOOD improvements.

Sodium 139 mEq/L ....135 - 148 mEq/L
Potassium 3.5 mEq/L ....3.5 - 5.0 mEq/L
Chloride 97 mEq/L ....98- 112 mEq/L
CO2 30 mEq/L ....24 - 31 mEq/L
Anion gap 12@ANIO mEq/L ....7 - 15 mEq/L
BUN 17 mg/dL .... 8 - 23 mg/dL
Creatinine 1.32 mg/dL ....0.70 - 1.20 mg/dL
Glucose 88 mg/dL ....65 - 99 mg/dL (Feb - 67)
Calcium 9.7 mg/dL ....8.8 - 10.2 mg/dL
Protein 7.1 g/dL ....6.3 - 8.3 g/dL
Albumin 3.6 g/dL ....3.5 - 5.0 g/dL
A/G ratio 1.0 ....0.7 - 3.8
Alkaline phosphatase 59 U/L ....40 - 129 U/L
AST 43 U/L ....10 - 50 U/L
ALT 63 U/L .... 5 - 50 U/L
Total bilirubin 1.2 mg/dL ....0.0 - 1.2 mg/dL

My blood pressure has also dropped from an average of 157/80 to 134/70. So far this stuff is working. I also added a supplement called Natokinase. Been using 4000FU for 3 weeks now. It is supposed to work similar to a statin and also lowers the blood pressure.

As my blood count increases so does my BP. Think of all those RBC competing to pass through your kidneys. Drink more water, take a 81mg aspirin 3 Mon, Wed, Fri. Cardio 5 x/week.
In my experience short esters help keep my blood count down, not by much, one point.

@Bigtex I've noticed no improvement as the result of taking statins. Glad it works for you.

CFM do you take 1 baby aspirin on Monday,Wed,Friday? Or is it 3 on each day? I'm thinking the first one, just want to be clear as this is something that sounds good and want to try out.

Yeah, I was very worried about even having to take the statin. I wanted to take a fibrate type drug by this guy insisted on the statin. Looks like it is working so I won't complain. I have never had a high RBC. I have also been taking an 81mg aspirin for maybe the past 20 years just to be sure. Hell I drink about 1 gallon of water a day as it is. Taking a diuretic I have to go to piss every 30 minutes.

I have tried to do cardio but after 2 weeks my knees hurt like hell. So I switched to HIIT on a bike. I go 15 minutes 3 x a week and seem to get much more out of that with out the knee pain.
