Healthy Budget Shopping List

What’s your go-to health foods to buy on a budget at the grocer?

I basically feed myself and a healthy girlfriend for about $200 a week. Most shopping trips look like this.

8dz organic pasture raised eggs ~ $50
9lbs 93/7 grass fed and grass finished ~ $60
5lbs organic jasmine rice ~ $10
Apples and whatever fruit on sale ~ $30
4 containers Organic spinach ~ $12
Frozen bags of corn and broccoli and green beans, all organic ~ $16
Whatever good sales on chicken/broth/pork ~ $30-40

This doesn’t include coffee. I’m a fucking coffee snob and usually buy small 10oz bags of whole beans for $20-30 and make pour overs or espresso at my house.

This doesn’t include the occasional dessert anymore either.

Typical meal for both of us is 1 cup rice, 1 bag corn, 1 bag broccoli, 2lbs beef.
Rice usually cooked in bone broth which tastes amazing and also adds copious protein. I usually eat about 2/3 of the food.

Anything left over gets tossed into eggs the next morning.

Is it good or bad that I’m happy to only be spending roughly $1000 on food a month?

Hey SAD, that looks very good!

With the amount of meat that you're eating, have you considered purchasing 1/2 side of beef or some other bulk quantity? It's my understanding you can end up getting a mix of cuts at an average of about $4-4.5/lb, which would reduce your meat costs by about 35% or so. Plus, if you don't want ground meat for every meal, you've got a bit of variety.

I’ve had trouble finding grass fed and finished beef for that price. I can get grass fed and grain finished (they can call it that with any percentage, meaning 5% grass and then 95% grain finished can still be considered grass fed grain finished) for around $6 per pound on average, but by the time you factor in bones and fat, you might be closer to $7/8 per pound and at that point, I can get grass fed and grass finished for that.
I do love steaks, but just buy them fresh and fat for the occasion.

I never get tired of ground beef either, ha. Taco, burger, casserole, meatballs, etc etc

I really wish I could afford the organ meat ground beefs out there, and I could, but I’d be paying $4-5 more per pound and it’s hard to justify $11-13 per pound for ground beef. I’ve done it for a couple months though and felt great…probably worth it again…hmmmm. I got mine from Rep Provisions.

000 Yogurt , honey , blueberries and strawberries , tons of white and jasmine rice , sweet potatoes , russian black bread , peanut butter

I got a weakness for a reeces pb cup during a work out or a poptart for quick fuel

I drink wayyyyy too much coffee , water ,,, maybe one or two diet Dr Peppers a week , dont drink soda normally just too thick and weird.

There are the occasional odds and ends , with 12 grand kids the ol lady is always baking something soooo yeah LOL

Publix! Their Greenwise pasture raised eggs are only $5.99 dozen, and they have golden yellow all the way to burnt orange yolks (my main way of telling if they’re worth it, lol).
To clarify for those not familiar with Publix and their green wise line, it’s all organic.

Looks good. I really cannot add anything if going to the grocery store. I typically buy my chicken at the butcher. 40 lbs of breast for $80-90 depending on the market. They have rewards, so about every 3rd or 4th time I go in there I save 25%. I eat about 40 lbs a month to myself.
