Hi everyone. I'm new here. I've lifted various weights in my time but have never really figured out what I was doing. I am hoping you can all help me. My background is indoor rowing and I have competed at that over the last 18 years. My last race was on December 7th at the British Championships. I now want to seriously focus on lifting weights but this time do it properly. If you see I need help type posts they are likely from me.

Jamie

Welcome to the den. Lots of great information here, the best and most knowledgeable people and lots of sarcasm.

Welcome Jamie,

your best bet is to get a coach to help u with training and nutrition if u don’t know ur self what to do, for the fastest gains and progress.

or just stick around for years and lear all u can

Hi Jamie, you've landed on a Board where most members have been serious about lifting weights for bodybuilding, or, powerlifting, olympic lifting, and "strongman."

Many of the most active members are in their 40s and beyond and have ample experience learning how to avoid injuries or overtraining and what to do when you haven't avoided them. How to manage nutrition, supplements, and (sadly) licensed health care providers who may know less than you do are discussed frequently as well.

Welcome to TID.

Welcome, brother.

Lot of knowledge in here. My specialties are craft beer, cheeseburgers and quantum mechanics. In that order. :) But there are a lot of serious lifters in here. Ask away.

Welcome JamieP. A competitive rower... very impressive. And I genuinely mean that!

It means you're already in excellent shape, have strong legs and back, and are good at taking instruction. You've got a great base for significant improvement!

Obviously, weight training is different than rowing, but the discipline and mindset that brought you success in rowing will translate very well to weightlifting.
