My shoulder has been getting worse and worse. I have been at the point where I can not even raise my arm up in bed from my side the pain is too great.

I finally decided to go back to my massage therapist. Guy has more initials and certifications, but long story short, he specializes in sports rehab. We did an hour (actually he ran over and did almost 75 min on me). At the end I was ready for it to be done. He did manage to get about 70% of it fixed. It all goes back to a broken collar bone which messed up my alignment at 17. There are a bunch of small muscles that all get tight in there and eventually roll my shoulder forward and down. Been 2 years since I last saw him and it was a lot to try to get out in one session.

One thing he said would help, is heavy farmers or deadlifts. I have not been doing deads the past few years and I am thinking that was helping keeping my shoulder loosened up somewhat.

Went to the gym tonight, but felt like I had already worked out. I did not hit much over a 25lb dumbbell, but did tons of ROM stuff. I need to stay on top of it. When it gets bad, the pain starts radiating all the way down my arm into my fingers.

The work this guy does is amazing. It is pretty painful, but unbelievable what can be done in such a short time.

My mind works very quickly, which is too say it leaps to conclusions really fast.
Saw the title, saw the pic; I figured LG had caught you beating on a girl in the hood again.

Good luck with all that; you got me thinking about how I had also broken a clavicle yrs before my current shoulder problems became evident. Not sure what I'm gonna do with that insight, right now I'm just muttering to myself.

Whoa!!!! He got you good brother! Glad you are feeling better! I also use a massage therapist. It's amazing how much a little body work can fix a guy up.

Mac ive had the same pain for yrs after a broken collar bone and shoulder. Had surgery a few yrs back and not much help. Dl's and a massage have been my biggest reliefs by far! I did schedule a appt for a new ortho next wk to get another opinion. What are your plans going forward?

The broken collar bone can change a lot about the shoulder geometry. He explained it to me in detail but I only remember a few of the anatomical names.

The massage guy said the supraspinatus is one of the culprits (along with a few other small muscles) These tiny muslces shorten and roll the shoulder over and forward. Eventually, they almost lock up the shoulder (which is where I am at). It seems all the heavy lifting I was doing in the past may have kept my shoulder loosened up. Tthings like holding heavy weight under tension stretch those out and help keep those muscles worked but also stretch them. Farmer walks, even deadlifts.

I have not lifted 'heavy' the past couple years. Now my workouts are only hitting the big muscle groups like delts, lats and traps, my shoulder is binding up.

I was amazed the first time I saw this guy since he literally opened me up completely over the course of an hour. I could feel the tightened fascia release as it was done. Really amazing if you find someone who knows how to get at it properly.

Anyway, the common ortho cure for this is cortisone shots and a surgery to loosen up the shoulder and provide more slack in those small muscle groups. I am going to give my self a chance to heal up from what we did and go in again in a few weeks and knock the rest out. He is going to give me some things I can do to try to keep it loosened up. It is some tough stuff to get at, especially if you have decent muscular development on top. It is also right up at the limits of pain I could take and I have a fairly high pain tolerance. But it was well worth it.

Dang, I bet it feels so much better though.

You’ll have to PM what to look for because I’m lost on how to find a good therapist that can work on my neck and shoulder. Have had some many issues and most can do a good job, but just can’t get it right.

Piss. You got more from your massage guy than I got from my M.D. years ago. All I got was an X-Ray, a diagnosis, a note to cover my ass for work, a prescription for a sling +several weeks inactivity, another X-Ray, the announcement that my clavicle had healed, and another note to authorize returning to work. I was young then and less inclined to push a doctor to explain things than I am now.

I keep a mental dictionary these days; next to the word "unreliable" it has always had pics of politicians and used car salesmen. Gonna add a pic of doctors right now.

My rom and angle of movements are drastically different from shoulder to shoulder due to surgery/bone removal. Straight bar work is out :(

I have the same issue but mine is from arthritis in left shoulder from years of abuse.
A good chiropractor/massage guy helps a lot. Much more than Dr. Scraping helps but hurts like hell but worth it in long run.

What are your thoughts on snatch grip dead’s.. I have tons of scap issues and have been thinking that farmers walks and these might help me some

Pretty sure your question was addressed to Mac and not me (a smart thing to do, btw) but ...........

my thoughts are that the 2 exercises you suggest will have 2 different effects on your shoulders/upper back. Farmers Walks will direct force pretty much straight down, while anything with a wide grip will direct (some of) the force outward. No idea if either or both is better in your case, but they are different. There's an old pic of Steve Reeves deadlifting 135 with his fingers gripping the old wide-rim 45s, but that booger was in his 20s then.
