Why exactly are you thanking them for? For invading in Irak or anywhere else and killing thousands of innocents and women and children because YOUR "government" says that they are terrorists and are responsible for 9/11?
Your government wants their oil, that's why all this is happening for. These people have never done anything to you. The Vietnamese or the Japanese haven't done anything to you either. Your government wanted you to believe that they are the bad guys when they have send economic hit-men almost everywhere in the world to capsize the presidents of various countries or corrupt them.
Stop getting brainwashed by the fucking media and read a few books for a change. Documentaries are good to if you're bored to read.
