So, who's behind it?

Iran?
China?
Mossad?

Too obvious.

North Korea? Not a chance.

Turkey? No one thinks about the Turkish MIT too much these days, but they're the OG intelligence service. Even the term deep state was coined in their honor.

Russia doesn't have the capabilities to pull off anything this smooth without leaving a massive trail. Their tech capabilities are the equivelant of a dirty bomb, effective but sloppy. That's besides the fact that most of the siloviki are non-ideological money-chasers, so they're only interested in this sort of thing if it makes them money. That's besides the fact that they outsource most of their tech functions to a bunch of third-party salarymen-hackers in Belarus and Czechia who could care less about disrupting the collective West.

But, there's also the option NOBODY EXPECTS....... THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

Large Marge did it with the help of Hugo Chavez , they called up the gazpacho police and had them pull one of the space lasers out of a special cold storage peachtree dish , couple of zaps later it was over.

Large Marge from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure?

Wel... Pee-Wee Herman's real name was Paul Rubenfeld, and his father was Milt Rubenfeld, an American WWII veteran (although he served in the RAF) who volunteered in the Israeli War for Independence (MAHAL unit of overseas volunteers). Milt Rubenfeld then went on to found the Israeli Air Force.

So... Can I take that as a vote for Mossad?

Sadly, 0...

I just fried my egg a long time ago from drinking too much beer in college (best 6 years of my life). But, hey, at least I'm not as far out there as Big Lenny!

this is good old fashioned hastily rushed out tech. The Crowdstrike ceo has a track record for this shit. He caused similar problems when he was busy running Mcaffee into the ground.

Other countries do (officially) very little hacking of US infrastructure. Of course it has happened, but it's rare. The reason being that the US has a history of responding in a major way. We can hit much harder that they can. And we have. The CIA consultant and international relations guy Peter Zeihan talks about this. The US is extremely aggressive at striking back. The US has no problem climbing the escalation chain.
