Even though I do not suggest/encourage to perform the snatch (classical lift) in any of it's forms be it muscle, power, or squat snatch this video does a good job of explaining how to set up and you can use it for your snatch pulls and snatch high pulls.

I recommend everyone who wants to become faster to incorporate snatch and clean pulls into their training. You don't need to perform the classical lifts (Snatch and C&J) for the movement to be effective. The Pull portion will accomplish everything you're hoping to achieve and remove most of the risk.

Got'r done.... Not a bad day but I was pressed for time so I had to cut my workout short. Also, didn't help I had nothing in my stomach when I trained (hadn't eaten anything, just rolled out of bed and off to the gym). All in all... not a bad day.

A fast training session but a good one. Got in, got done, and got out. 185 didn't feel as bad as I was thinking so I'm getting better at the technique and I'm getting a bit better at the movement.

No plans on competing. I still have years of school so that's always my focus... at least for the time being.

I haven't broken in my yoke yet but I will in time. I'm not sure I should make my Sunday's 3 SM events or keep them at 2. I guess I'll just have to try it and see...

Waking up one morning and realizing that no one cares what I squat, bench, or deadlift was quite the epiphany. It was like a weight off my shoulders... It allowed me to remember why I fell in love with lifting all those years ago....

My hybrid SM + PL + Oly training is going to make me more well rounded. Being 38yo is not old by any stretch of the imagination but it's old enough to realize I need to make changes now while I have time to push myself to new heights in other areas.

My 2 cents: compete as a novice and don't worry about winning. You'll be surprised how much fun it is. Most competitions are on Saturdays, so it shouldn't interfere with school. The entry fees vary from $50 to $100 or so, depending on the show, and you get a tee shirt as part of the price at most shows. Sometimes the trophies are swords, battle axes or other fun stuff! The two major leagues are North American Strongman by Kalley Beck and US Strongman by Willie Wessels. I am in USS mostly though occasionally I compete in NAS. My coach says USS is where most of the strongest men compete, and NAS is where most of the strongest women compete.

As for you training 3 events on Sundays (we train on Saturdays), I found 3 events seriously taxing when I was first starting out, but now, 5 years in, I am not nearly so tired after training at least 3 and occasionally 4 events during our strongman Saturdays. I think if you start out with 2, then increase it to 3, and later increase it to 4, you will find that your body adapts. I would not go above three events regularly until you have trained strongman for a few years or until you no longer find 3 events to be seriously taxing.

Unfortunately, right now I'm also the sole bread winner of the family (SS got a full ride to go back to school for engineering) so my free time is very limited. I make sure I get in 4x a week but my times are all over the place and on Sat I'm running a building from 9am - 4pm so I'm stuck since there is no one to cover for me. That's also why I haven't done a meet in a long time (USPA is run by a friend but I can't make it on Sat to compete). All in time though... school is temporary and I'm not done lifting, not by a long shot.

I figure I'll keep Sunday to 2 events for 3-4months and then increase it to 3 events and probably stay there for 4-6months (perhaps longer).

I am having a blast with this new training. When I no longer cared about numbers and just focused on pushing myself while having fun I found training to be less stressful.

Had a busy weekend so was unable to hit my 3rd day during my active recovery which is ok by me b/c I pulled and squatted which are my 2 most important things to do during that week.

Back to the grind... Not a bad day. I'm happy with how it went. Got it all done in 1hr30min.
