Well I am by far not a powerlifter. But when I have a Max lift and three attempts my first is ways a comfort weight I will 100 percent get. My second is a max I have hit repeatedly and the third is always a pr.
That rely has nothing to do with geared lifting just replying as to why a person would go for a pr at a meet
So if equipment doesn't help why is it used again? I can't see that guy even even resisting 495 on the negative much less getting it halfway back up again without the shirt. I don't think anyone worth a pinch of shit would say that equipment does ALL the work or that any body could put on a shirt or suit of specific tension and put up whatever poundage they wanted. But on the same stream of logic, I don't think anyone looks at a guy who benches 4 or however many plates in a shirt the same as they look at someone who can bench without it.
It's kind of like some of our so-called experts saying you are not a powerlifter if you only enter contests or focus on one lift during contests.....apparently you are a specialist. I don't even frickin bother anymore. I say shut up and lift. If you want to be a bench only or deadlift only guy, so be it. Enjoy what you do and LIFT. It's no wonder the powerlifting world is so divided. We got feds who don't agree on the small ass differences or interpretations in rules and etc. Oh and then someone even cocked off that you are not a powerlifter unless you do a meet. Yeah, um ok. Check the ego at the door and lift. Oh and so I don't completely hijack this thread. I challenge anyone to put on a bench shirt or squat suit and get under the bar with 1000+ lbs on it and complete a lift. It's apples or oranges. Do what you enjoy and let others do the same.
I know we've veered off topic but that's what's wrong with PLing imo. There should be only 2 federations; 1 tested and 1 non tested. There shouldn't be a dozen or more different federations like there are today.
He had 14 inch arms No back width at all.. No leg drive... and that lift was his best out of the 3 in terms of having a chance to push the weight and balancing. One of the lifts with different spotters, the weights slipped about 6-8 inches before they grabbed it. I don't envy the spotters at all. They saved his life on this one.
Would love to see you squat if you ever make a show on the east coast porky. Much respect to your #'s
