I've used a foam roller for physical therapy, and that mother fucker hurt. Of course, I was hurt already, so that could have something to do with it....

I have heard good things but haven't pulled the trigger. Any recommendation on a good one and how to use it?

Yeah it works well. Not as well as deep tissue massage, but I'd keep it on hand when you need it.

I've been using a foam roller for over 2 years now to aid in recovery. I started with a 24 inch med density one then upgraded to a 36 inch high density roller. The denser or harder the roller, the deeper it'll work the muscle. If you want to really get deep in the muscle, you can use a piece of 6 inch diameter PVC pipe cut to what ever length you prefer.

I use a pvc pipe for my rolling stuff out I think it is a 6 inch in diameter piece. Also I have found a basketball against a wall works well for upper back .Tennis balls are great for getting those little spots around the shoulder blades. And for arch issues golf balls are helpful .

I use them from time to time but I'm going to make a better effort to incorporate it into my recovery methods at least 3x week.

Never considered this really... May give it a whirl though. My mid back has been bothering me for a little while after I hurt it doing military press. I let my core loosen for a second and maybe did some compression or something. The chiro says the spine is fine, but the lower end of my left trap is pissed off...
