Although this is from a company trying to sell their product, I found it to be an excellent explanation of what MF is talking about regarding the ester of Fish Oil supplements. I found it because I have found entirely to much information about how AWESOME fish oil is an was looking for a version for my children. It even has references which is kind of a requirement of mine for any marketing crap! Check it out:

I have forgotten to mention something very important about this whole Fish Oil thing. I have now read enough info that I feel comfortable giving an opinion on Fish Oil ( Which I'm gonna throw out here for comments ).

If you are purchasing a fish oil supplement and it is not Triglyceride Ester version you may be doing more harm then good. When you take the Ethyl Ester version ( the most common because of cost to change it back to Triglyceride - 30-40% higher cost ) you are actually posioning yourself with Ethanol. Our body will convert the Ethyl Ester into Ethanol!! YES, the same additive now used in our gasoline!! If that isn't bad enough, if you are a recovering alcoholic it is possible for the ethanol to set off the addiction process again. Also, the Ethyl Ester version should NEVER be given to children because the poison dose for their size is so much smaller then what an adult can handle.

I had to post this because as I said in my earlier post there seems to be a HUGE amount of reasons you should be taking fish oil and I wanted to look into giving it to my children. My family intake of fish is very small and I don't want my children missing out on the benefits of this fantastic supplement! Especially, considering the positive effect on the brain :D

PS Many, many thanks to the Fish Oil guru MF for sending me down this path!

A couple more links that I have come across ( probably rereads for MF ;) ).

Great article about EPA and the way it effects fatty acid composition.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3541561/

Kind of explains the one article ( still looking for it ) I read about the need of
GLA when supplementing DHA/EPA. The article ( not this one ) I am looking
for said that DHA uses up GLA which is why I added it to my Lipid mix.
DHA+EPA+GLA for the win!

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12499320

This one shows the relationship between EPA DHA ALA and some of the
things they are in. No wonder MF knows a lot about this stuff!! New Zealand
is mentioned in this article LOL

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11094639

OK this one is for those that buy into Psychiatric stuff. I consider that field of
study pseudo-science . . . ie mostly B$. I think they are in bed with the
Pharm companies!! http://www.cchrint.org/cchr-issues/the-corrupt-alliance-of-the-psychiatric-pharmaceutical-industry/ http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/780835 OK rant off! We can still glean some possible info from
this study IMO. That being when you eat foods that are better for you - you
usually "feel" better too. Someone will probably get paid a nice salary
researching that LOL

Looks as if there are a few taking shortcuts to eliminate cost in association with production with this publicized and popular product.

Indeed GF. I couldn't find the link for where I read it so I didn't want to post it but, when they have the EE version instead of the TG version they shouldn't even be allowed to call it an oil. Something to do when the chemistry definition of an oil. So, basically it is fraud! But, it is the supplement industry so that is par for the course LOL

PS I forgot about this! If your not sure about your fish oil. Cut it open and place it in a styrofoam cup. The Ethyl Ester version will melt through in under ten minutes! At least that is what I read :261:

If anyone is really interested in omega 3's, their background and their relevance and applications for health then you need to hunt down this book:

It's pretty in depth reading, but you won't walk away with many (if any) questions.

OK MF here is another new one thrown into the mix!! Check this one out. I am certainly against it but, it is interesting how the Pharm companies are trying to $ in on the Fish Oil benefit train!

After reading all the stuff I could find on Fish Oil ( DHA EPA ), I find it funny that they release an EPA only version. My conclusion is if you are taking this in doses to help correct high Triglyceride levels you should be taking the ( as MF brought to my attention :-bd ) Triglyceride Ester version only and also add GLA to the mix because of the DHA use of it.

I would stay away from flax seed oil and just get you are really good fish oil. SFH (Stronger Faster Healthier) has a really good one and it has vitamin D already in it as well. You want to be getting at least 3-5 grams per day.

Did my best searching to find what form this oil is ( EE or TE ) and I can't find them saying what form they have?!?

They have this on there site which doesn't say what their's is. Which kinda to me makes it misleading.

"Lastly, one may want to consider the chemical forms for EPA and DHA. The most expensive forms are usually the ethyl esters of EPA. These products require chemistry to make the ethyl ester form of EPA. This makes the molecules more volatile which allows this fatty acid ester to be separated and concentrated from other fats by distillation. Free fatty acids are another major form. Finally, EPA and DHA may be prepared naturally and delivered in the triglyceride form. In fact, the most expensive over the counter liquid omega 3 oils are in the all triglycerides form and these products cost between $70 and $80 for an effective month’s supply."

From here: http://strongerfasterhealthier.tumb...sh-oil-triglyceride-form-free-fatty-acid-form

Weird that they talk about but, as far as I have been able to find they don't make a claim as to what version theirs is. Maybe I just missed it.
