Like most issues, there are good arguments on both sides of whether to raise the minimum wage. I worry about mom and pop businesses. But I'd like to see workers able to make enough money to live.

The federal government has authority under the commerce clause of the constitution and has set the minimum wage for a long time. If that were unconstitutional, we would have known that a long time ago.

Robots are coming regardless of the minimum wage, and as pointed out, maybe faster due to increases in the minimum wage. But robots will take more than just minimum wage jobs. In another 10 years you'll see automation of almost every profession, and in 40 years, robots will do most of the work. A much bigger problem than whether to raise the minimum wage. If you want to rebell about something, that's something that will probably be worth rebelling over.

that’s not what the commerce clause is for. people like to use that excuse to get their political agenda into law. they use the commerce clause for everything the federal government does. read the Federalist papers and you’ll understand the constitution better.

The government isn’t supposed to own people and put a price on their labor. that’s oppressive.

I have no problem with raising it from $7.25, damn, that's not even a good sammich at most delis. But to more than double it is a shock to the system for many small businesses.
As most said, big companies DGAF, even my small local supermarket that isn't a huge chain just put in self checkouts. Only people i don't see there any longer are the hot high school and college chicks who would work the registers in the afternoon and the older ladies who worked there in the AM. So who is this really helping and hurting?

The commerce clause has been so utterly abused and is one of the top agenda items to fix on the Constitutional Convention drive.

Here's a good explanation of the commerce clause: The commerce clause doesn't allow the federal government to regulated business that engages in commerce. It only allows the fed. govt to regulate the commerce itself.

Its best to make yourself worth more pay than it is to have the gov require your employer to pay you more. as stated above increasing min wage ultimately drives wage inflation which increases cost of goods and services so it becomes a wash to min wage employees. Min wage jobs were never intended to be careers. example. I serve on the board of directors for a non profit ( I donate my time) As my state has been increasing min wage our costs to operate have been drastically increased as many of our employees are students and payroll is our largest expense. We serve a lot of low income families, as our payroll costs go up we are now faced with 2 possibilities... 1. Increase the cost of services. Or 2. reduce services and lay ppl off. Daycare is a big part of services provided. lots of single parent and low income families that we serve. We provide "scholarship" $ to really low income families... I hate to see that expense increase for them which effectively lowers their take home pay so we can pay students more $$

This is how I lost my last job...they raised their minimum wage up to $11-12.00/hr, and gave all those under $15/hr a slight raise. This squeezed me out, and everybody who had my title as well....all of whom had college degrees. They are increasing the minimum wage up in phases each year, until they hit $15/hr. Everybody is for it until they lose their jobs, and those who made the cut and are lazy have to work harder.

I live in the shit country of California though. Great looking women, awesome mountains and beaches, great food and culture.....but the libtards have been ruining it with their braindead policies. The dems who voted for the policies are now fleeing to Arizona, Texas, Nevada, etc....after voting for everything they wanted <rolleyes>

I can’t really add to what’s been said... but IMO this is all a path to a guaranteed income which a lot of these socialists have been pushing for a long time. If you kill the entry level jobs, a huge amount of low skilled people won’t ever have a job.... thus the need for a universal income.

Amnesty + minimum wage mandates = no jobs.

Munchausen by government: government creates the problem, then swoops in to “fix” it... by making people more dependent upon government, the idiots become even more dependent upon government until they’re ripe for a communist revolution because America was racist from inception

The best thing is to have your investments and income in order so that whatever these fucks do you will always be above it.
Rise up above the bottom feeders as Bilty stated above make yourself worth MORE.
Bring more value to the marketplace, become an EXPERT in your field not just a worker.
A guy I listened to when I was young once said it's not that things cost TOO MUCH it is that you don't make enough, so increase your income even if it is 20 bucks per day initially $400 a month can make a difference if you are struggling, then make it $50 per day and so on.

This minimum wage is for high schoolers and people just starting in the workplace, they don't need $15 an hour IMO.
Cheers
