Who does everyone see for their overall health? GP? PA? Sports Specialist?

Or better yet, who has stories...like me...about their physicians who clearly are phoning it in or have no idea wtf they are doing or talking about.

I have a primary care doc at the VA and one on civilian side. Neither know about the gear. And blood work has been good. Only thing a little high was my RDW. I’d love to find a doc I could be open with about stuff.

My guy is a PA (Physicians Assistant) and honestly, is a fucking idiot.

I get BW done 2-3x a year. He always wants me to come in for a physical after I get it done and sometimes humor him. The first time I saw him he commented on how I actually lost weight since last time he saw me 2 years prior and that most of his patients had what he called "The Covid 19" where they gained weight during the pandemic because they couldn't do anything whereas I went in the opposite direction.

On one occasion he made a comment about my test levels since I always have them check it, it was >1200 and my RBC was a little high. I informed him I was on Test and his comment was "You should tell whomever is giving it to you to lower the dose because RBC high, heart attack, stroke, yada yada." I said "Ok, no problem." I figured I would go home, look in the mirror and tell myself to lower the dose since it was me getting it for me.

Next time I saw him, results same, test >1200, RBC a lil high but not alarming, creatinine a lil high but not crazy. He starts in with "I know you said you were on test but I don't know why, your creatinine levels are high and you might need dialysis or a transplant."

The thing that really pisses me off is this clown never once ASKED ANY QUESTIONS, or even opened a dialogue with me. "Hey Gary, you lost weight but some of your markers are a little high, is there anything you are doing differently?"

Well asshole, yes, yes there is, if you would have actually cared enough to ask I would have told you everything I am doing, including gear. I would have told him also my RBC is high from not only the Test, but from the fact I am doing heavy weight training 4x a week and my muscles need the increased blood flow and I am not some POS who is overweight and can't walk 5' without being out of breath, or have COPD or some other chronic ailment. I take 5g creatine a day which can give you false high creatinine levels without underlying kidney pathology. I stopped taking it for a month, had BW done and it was normal, whoda thunk it...

I have to find the article my buddy sent me about creatine giving false elevated creatinine levels, when I get it I will post it.

EDIT TO ADD: I think this is the one...

I had elevated potassium which freaked him out, "High potassium is as bad as low, you could drop dead any minute", I went the next day for a re-test and it was normal, this guy is an idiot.

Even better? TWICE, TWICE, I received phone calls the day after having blood drawn and was told:

"Hi Gary, this is so and so from ******** Medical Office, umm we are going over your results here and your red blood cell count is really high, they want you to go to the ER right away..."

"Ok, you have the rest of the results?"

"No, not yet but the PA that reviewed what we have so far wants you to go to the ER like right away because you are in danger."

"ok thanks...click."

I have come to the conclusion most Dr's don't give a flying fuck about their patients actual health and just try to see as many patients a day as they can, prescribe who knows what, just for the $$$

I’ve definitely seen that be true in a lot of cases. However, there are some great ones out there that are passionate about the work and patients. My girlfriend is a Specialty Doc and she’s extremely passionate about it. Being with her I have learned about an entire different side of the work of a doctor and how much shit they have to do and worry about beyond patient care. Numbers do matter, that’s for sure. Some companies have different pay structures though where total number of patients per day may not matter as much as number of certain procedures or whatever else. I have personally experienced the docs that just wanna get you in and out, especially ED and Urgent Care.
