Deployment Prep and Beyond Journal

Today was an off day and it worked great as I had my folks land today for my final 4 days in San Diego for the next 7 months prior to deployment. While they got a massage near my gym I went and did my thing...

615pm, 24 hour fitness hillcrest

20 minutes stepmill, 10 minutes elliptical 75% HRR

PNF stretch, foam roll, few sets of abs in circuit.

Already dreading the complete lack of food variety and meal prep creativity I will loose when we head out Monday. No fridge, no kitchen, minimal storage ick! Not that meals are bad on the ship as they are decent. Its just the same 21 meals rotated through for lunch and dinner every 21 days. I cant get breakfast on ship due to classes I lead that end right when breakfast does. So 2 meals a day I do from the ship for lunch and dinner and 2 others myself from my own stash of protein powders, quest bars, fresh fruit, nuts, oats. I have tons of those items stocked up so I hope that if I keep consistent I can keep my gains and if anything make a bit more even with 3 hours of fitness classes 6x a week and limited food prep/quality.

If there is a will there is a way as they say!

Day 2 with folks in town......day off from work, site seeing, tours, good meals, enjoying my final 3 days in town before i ship out.

squeezed in a lift while parents hit up a wine tour (i been on it before)

MCRD gym 4pm

upper push max effort day

5 minute warm up and shoulder prep series

bench press: worked up to 260 for singles, 4 sets
shoulder press: worked up to 85's for doubles, 4 sets
db bench press: 3x6
seated machine shoulder press: 3x8
reverse peck deck w/pause: 3x12
depth push ups: 2x20
db side laterals:3x15
tricep rope extensions: 2x15 overhead & 2x15 traditional rope press down

in and out and 75 minutes today, kept rests shorter and moved along. did not want to keep folks waiting after their tour too long. lucky for me it was all but 4 miles from the gym.
