What's New?

Cycling, not the kind usually mentioned here.

i have a steel rod with an obvious handle clipped to my top cross bar. i just reach down and i get my point across. as for the soccer moms on their cellphones that arent watching the road i want a co2 air horn yo wake those dumb bitches up. im still healing from a near death experience on monday. I did do a pretty nice superman impression though

I was a serious cyclist when I lived in South Africa , averaged about a 1000 miles a month , training twice a day .

30 / 40 mile road ride in the early morning then a session on the velodrome in the evening .

All to be a specialist at 1km Time trials & 1500m bunch races ...

But now , I'm lucky if I can get in 10 miles a week , between my 2 jobs & the shitty weather here in UK .

I ride a pretty simple, merida, mountain bike. i use it for all of my commuting and spend about 2hours on it a day. i love it but unfortunately its winter and its wet quite often. there are some cool mountains around here and it only takes me 30min to get outside the city into them. Ive tried some groups but they are pretty tame. I try to gun the shit out of it out of every green light high gears to try and get as much intensity out of my ride as possible since its my only cardio as of now

Damn man, that sounds like an experience to remember !!

Have you ridden on a few other tracks? Interested to hear how they compared to the London Velodrome MF.

MF This was my first taste of proper track cycling I ride fixed gear normally so the concept of "not stopping pedalling " I was used to .

I understand the Manchester velodrome has steeper banking around 45 degrees , the other track I'm aware of is Herne Hill which was used in the 1948 Olympics and is an outdoor concrete track with very long straights and short shallow corners . London is touted as the "fastest in the world " obviously altitude is a huge factor so I think they mean the track itself . What's unusual about Lee Valley (the olympic track ) is the corners are really long and the straights very short so the 250 m track seems very small , all in all it feels a bit like riding the cycling wall of death .

This link has a good rundown of the track -

I got into cycling when I lived in Holland. When I moved back to the states I bought a Trek 7.5FX Hybrid since a road bike keeps me leaned over a little too much. I have a bad spine so need to sit a little more up right. I can easily log 20 miles in a simple joy ride. The weather is starting to get better here so I'm ready to get the bike out and out on the bike paths here. I try to avoid the road if I can since driver's dont pay attention or care at all. I need to find some good riding shorts for this season. Something to add a little more cushion that I can wear underneath my regular shorts.

I'm currently on a Surly Steamroller for crappy weather days and a Cervelo Soloist for longer and faster rides. Gotta love me come 'cycling!

Getting my fat ass back into shape. The road bike is gonna get a time up and the old road bike is going to become a fixed gear commuter soon. It's time to kill the dad bod
