As of yesterday, we have one complete floor of Covid + patients, and more will come....not ICU, but regular medical surgical, not requiring intensive / critical care. What is troublesome, is that during round 1, the Covid Pts were completely separate from all the others. Now they mixed Covid with Non-covid....same floor just different rooms. we have portable computers....so I would grab one and sit away from the other nurses and doctors.
Environmental workers...those that clean the rooms, they go in and out of each room....usually they reserve the Covid rooms for the end of the day. this was not how it were done during the first round. everything was separate.
Lastly, i worked a Postop floor over the weekend. one of my patients 27yr old Pretty Lady, an ICU nurse from another facility. Auto accident. hit a pole. Both hips fractured. rib fractures, seems since the first round, she has not done well mentally. the deaths, the environment, the lack of protective equipment. she turned to alcohol and has been severely depressed. the Psyche notes state since the population for Covid Patients has increased....she has become that much more challenged. Unfortunately, this is not a unique story. I had school teachers, a Police and others express the same sentiment and are struggling.
I am not sure how it has affected me . I stay away from my daughters. I last seen my girls, Fathers Day, this past June. before this, i saw them in February or early March. my last 2wk paycheck i clocked 180 hours...so 90hrs per week, i try to stay busy. as you can imagine well over $200k in salary for the year with 3 months to go.....but at what cost.
Your President has not taken this seriously.
