Left shoulder has been cranky enough for me to seek out an Ortho. We both agreed that there's nothing torn and leaning toward a labrum and or inflamed bursa.

I had my right one scoped about 5 years ago and happy I did it. Still, I'm not up for the down time and if needed, would like to wait until after summer. After the normal, Do this and push and pull testing with the Doc, he said, Let's get an MRI. hum.... I asked if a cortisone shot would help. He said it may not and could interfere with the MRI. Told him I can wait on the MRI and the cortisone shot is both therapeutic and diagnostic. (They hate hearing that) So I got the shot. Felt ok the next day. I'm a week out from shot in my bursa and I'm almost afraid to say this but fuuk I feel good!

Man if I could put off surgery or even better, not need it, I'd be a happy boy. What are the odds that shot was my cure or am I setting myself up for some disappointment?

Just take it easy. My freshman year in college I apparently had a partial tear in my rotator cuff and got a cortisone shot in my shoulder. Felt great. Doc even warned me to take it easy. Of course I am a dumb 18 year old. Shoulder felt awesome for about 2 weeks, and then my arm felt dead. Could barely lift it. Ended up doing scope on it and suturing the rotator cuff. I have had a few different surgeries, and honestly rotator cuff surgery was the worst. Hoping for a better outcome for you.

I had "a cortisone shot" to my shoulder yrs ago. Damn syringe looked like something they would use on a large horse or a small whale. The Doc explained what I was looking at was actually a mix of cortisone and lidocaine.

Not sure of how many cc's you got, if you got the same blend, or if expectations of time-related effectiveness for either drug might help answer your "What are the odds ... ? " question.

Dealing with it now. I’ve got a total of 3 tears in my left shoulder, one of them they call a slap tear. I got the cortisone shot & it lasted a few weeks. I’ve been babying it because I really can’t be down for 5-6 months for rehabilitation (doctor was the one saying 5-6 months). It still bothers me at times & it pisses me off because I know it’s not right. If I’m out for that long & not racking up hours I’ll lose my benefits & it will extend the time for me to draw my pension.

2 mL bupivacaine 0.25 %; 2 mL lidocaine 1 %; 1 mL betamethasone acetate-betamethasone sodium phosphate 6 (3-3) mg/mL

That means shit to me.

I asked about the gauge harpoon he was using. 18g. It looked more like Mom 's sewing needle. Short of the pressure you feel on the fill up, it was a walk in the park.

I had some clean up on the other should and delt with a SLAP tear. That's the labrum and that fuuker throbbed when I laid down for 20 minutes. Once sleep became an issue, I pulled the trigger.

Sucks that you have to put bills ahead of your own well-being.

Cortisone shots in my shoulder lasted for about a wk but that needed replacement. I was able to hold off having a knee "cleaned out" for 3 yrs with twice yearly shots. Spring and fall are the worst for arthritic pain imo

Yeah, doc said the shoulder doesn't appear to have any arthritis. He said the X-ray was actually pretty good.

Had one 2 weeks ago in my right hip as the leg was burning like a fucker at night when laying down to sleep and it is my "good leg" so I am kinda panicking, X ray showed hip deteriorated but I kind of expected that the shot did not help me at all.
Ortho tomorrow at 11am to get MRI ordered, man I wish the shot had helped me as like you stated it is in its own way "diagnostic".
Hope your shoulder gets better for you the recovery times on those are fucking eternal bro.

TOS!
got a cortizone shot in my shoulder earlier this year (march i think), it was a temporary solution. How temporary is based upon the person and how it works in their body. I think mine lasted about a month i think.
