For any that that wonder why I Houdini'd myself....
In 2014 I would consider my physique at its peak. 5'9", 240lbs, BF in low teens, strong like donkey. Spring 2014 I started feeling super lethargic and holding a bunch of water. I also noticed that my heartbeat felt like it was changing. I had mild heart flutters throughout life as long as I can remember, but the flutters were becoming episodes of 200bpm. I dropped all AAS and PCT'd out. My HPTA seemed to recover fine, but my overall condition continued to deteriorate. I went to a cardiac specialist in late summer who diagnosed me with an advanced case of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and said that my left ventricle had thickened (probably due to episodes combined with AAS) to the point that my heart was operating at 40%. I'm 33 years old at this point. Tried meds and shit went haywire so ended up having an emergency surgery to ablate the defective nerves causing the issue. My heart rate was 274bpm when they put me out for the op. I spent 6 months on a very limited activity and some very rough meds. My HPTA crashed in the following months and doc put me on TRT. Mid 2015 I started training again from zero. By summer 2016 I was back to good strength at around 220lbs. I was pushing bench program trying to get back over 500. During a routine bench session (3x5 day) I was on my final set with 375 on the bar, 2 reps in, and I heard an audible pop followed by what I can only describe as being burned and a rope splitting inside my chest. I tore 50% of my right pec major tendon and a muscle tear of the remaining 50%. Surgery followed and my pec was partially recovered. The muscle tear was a complete loss, but tendon was reattached. So I've been meandering in training over the last 12 months...I need to get back on the ball.

I would bet ya dollars to doughnuts that the bench you were using at the time was a cheap, shitty commercial bench with a narrow bench pad. Those do not provide nearly enough support and can easily cause such an incident to take place.

Not sure if you're planning on benching again but if you are be sure the bench has a wide pad (like Donnie Thompson's Fatpad) or ditch the bench all together and try floor presses.

I had a rough time and got back to training last April. I am over the 'big iron' and haven't gone over 275 and don't intend to. My overall look is better than I expected ie: I look like I can bench a car.

My experience pales in comparison to yours. Thank you for sharing. One of these days I'll get over myself and share what happened and why.

This game can and will take a toll.

Glad you're back at it.

You would be eating donuts tonight, lol. It was a commercial bench, coupled with me flaring my elbows because I was tired.

Glad to see you back Mayo, sorry to hear of your health problems though. As CFM said this game takes a toll on the body. Always enjoyed reading your journal back then and will be following this one as well. Best of luck and well wishes to you in the future.

Chest is my weak link due to my half tit. I rest between super sets on chest day as I'm still not comfortable pushing it. The circuit at the end is balls out tho...
