can i eat any food on lean bulk like ice cream or something like that, if i know my macro target and also my calories to not exceed 300-500 above maintnace? or it should be only clean food, as i know calorie is what makes fat deposition not a food or nutrient, so if i know how to calculate calories is it okay to eat ice cream as a snack or something like that if every day or sometimes? thanks!

There is more to it than just macronutrients. You also have to take into account micronutrients, digestion, gut health, break down between saturated and unsaturated fats, etc...

What you eat greatly depends on your genetics. I am around 10% BF and eat ice cream every night. I also eat plenty of carbs. It is not only hard for me to gain weight but I don't store a lot of fat and never really have. I consume 5000cal/d on the week days and 2600cal on the weekend. I am just hoping to maintain. My wife is a former IFBB pro and she eats a fraction of what I eat and gets fat. She can't eat carbs at all because they quickly store as fat. She has no idea what ice cream taste like. In general the higher the glycemic index of the carb the greater the propensity for it to store as fat once your body glycogen stores have been filled. Again, what you honestly need to do is learn how to eat. You are 16 years old and have a high metabolism. You need all the macros you can eat to gain. Get a good solid muscular physique and then start worrying about macros, micros and getting that six pac. You don't need to worry about a lean bulk, you need to be concerned with learning to eat enough to support muscle growth. You are thinking way to far ahead for only being 16.

Mike Mentzer and everyone said no nutrient make fat carbs or protein or fats, calories is what makes fat, so I think I can eat ice cream or anything I want If my calories are +300+500 calories above maintnace on lean bulk.

If you eat anything on a lean bulk, it will quickly turn into a not-so-lean bulk.

Obviously, during a bulk you don't have to be super strict with your diet, but you shouldn't go crazy with junk food either.

I think the point he's making is that he doesn't think his macros matter too much, as long as he's only in a mild caloric surplus. I think in general, he's correct. But you'll make the "best" progress on your lean bulk by keeping the calories cleaner and staying within the target caloric surplus.

Remember, it's a marathon and not a sprint. So any one day is fine to have yourself a treat. But if you're eating ice cream every day (just an exaggerated example), your progress will not be quite as good as when ice cream stays a periodic treat (e.g., once a week). But it's up to you. You get all the benefit and pay the full price for your decisions. It's up to you. I think giving yourself a periodic treat can be a good thing as a reward for your dedicated hard work. But "periodic" should not be "all the time." LOL

But then you get calories from eating nutrients. Carbohydrates require less energy (TEF) to digest, they also store as fat much easier that any other nutrient. Carbohydrates are converted into glucose, which are used for energy, and any extra glucose is stored in the liver and muscle as glycogen. After our glycogen storage is full extra energy is converted to adipose tissue. The shorter the carbon chain of the carbohydrate the easier/quicker it is to convert to glucose. So grape juice would quickly convert as compared to brown rice.

When fat is broken down into glycerol or odd carbon-chain fatty acids, it can be converted to glucose. So extra calories in fat are harder to convert into adipose. While it’s technically possible for some protein to be converted to fat, it’s not a major contributor to fat storage under normal circumstances. It i s also very energy costly for the body to digest and process protein.

Remember too ice cream is mile. Milk is full of lactose with is a simple sugar. It depends on your particular genetics, but for the most part simple carbohydrates should be limited.

Again, at your stage in the game, I would toss the lean bulk thing out the window and just eat. As long as you are training hard you are not going to put on very much fat at all and once you develop a solid base, then you can cut some of the fat off.

If you have the answers then why are you asking?

There you go.........personally I would suggest you drop the carbs to 50% and go up on the fat to 25%. Type II muscle fibers are glycogen dependent. They need carbs. Again, you need to add a considerable amount of muscle mass. Forget, cutting, forget the six pac and forget the term lean bulk and just workout hard and eat big.
