What's New?

Can a man in his 70’s start TRT with great results?

Hey guys,

My dad is 74. Great guy. Still with it mentally.
My father is having hip issues due to him losing most of his muscle in his hips. It’s causing him to fall and I want another 15-20 years with him.

He is overweight and has been for a while.
I am getting him and my mother both of Tirzepitide for weight loss. I am putting them on a high protein diet and supervising a workout regimen for them. (I am paying for all of this to take sure they do it lol)

He has very low T and has for years.
I want him on TRT to help with motivation, energy, bone density and to help him increase the muscle mass in his hips.

Has anyone seen any positive results for older men getting on TRT?

I have a friend who started in his mid 60's. He is 80 now. His situation may be a little different. He didn't have any major physical issues. He lifts very light, high reps. His diet is meticulous.

Probably in the morning some guys with more knowledge than will chime in though. I only know of this one guy, he may be an outlier.

He should benefit a lot from TRT. He likely, wouldn't need much either and if I was his doctor, which you can read in my signature I am not, I would keep his script low where his total test was in the 500 ng/dl range to reduce the chances of negative effects. In fact, in his case, it would be the only time I would actually recommend the cream. Less negative effects and even the higher doses typically place you in that 400-500 ng/dl range.

Older guys will have to watch for blood viscosity and all the issues that could come from it. Keeping the test lower and using the cream typically mitigates a rise in RBC/hemoglobin/HCT.

I have an 83 yr old friend, uses a mix of TestC and Deca (script). Has PCa low Gleason score but docs are not concerned. Has to get a phlebo to control HCT but other wise tolerates it just fine. He's been on HRT for decades. Has the cardiovascular capacity of a fit 50 yr, crushes the yearly VO2max testing. Joints are in bad shape and still works out. Always been active though. Watch BP, viscosity and PSA.

Hey guys . . . .
Great job of turning the caregiving roles around, DogMogul. Don't know how you found this board, but many of the most active members here are in the same approximate age range you might be. There is a lot of potential for teaching and learning in your thread.

Welcome, thanks, stick around.

UPDATE!!

Got the my 74 year old dad set up on TRT today.
I wanted a place for him to get supervised on it so he is at Gameday Mens Health for the time being.

He is excited.

Month 1 is Tirzepetide + TRT
Physical therapy + MRI

Month 2 and on I will be hiring a dedicated fitness trainer that specializes in seniors

We will rebuild him!!

Wanted to give you an update on my 74 yr old dad.
He has lost 14 lbs in the last 2 months and attached is his testosterone levels at the beginning and after 5 weeks on TRT.
He is feeling way more energetic - you can hear it in his voice.

Very nice progress. As he continues to lose weight, he's going to feel so much better.
