So Brian Shaw is getting into arm wrestling in big way, not just in training to become great, but on the business side as well.
Recently he was on stage in Chicago for one of the, if not THE, biggest armwrestling events of all time. He announced that he’d be partnering with the East Vs West organization (a current powerhouse of super match style arm wrestling PPVs) and would be hosting a high level arm wrestling competition at his Shaw Classic this year in partnership with EvW. Although the event had some serious production difficulties, some would say disasters, the arrival of Shaw with the deeper commitment to the sport really shook up what you would THINK would be nothing but good stuff.
But, then suddenly a day later, the shit hits the proverbial fan, and respected athletes are letting the dirt fly about not being paid, among other things. Brian isn’t at all specifically named, but the old founder/owner has resigned from his already odd position in the company and it’s getting a little ugly.
Shaw will be great long term for the sport, and as much as I think it’s a tough uphill battle for him as a puller, I think he might be able to get NEAR the top of North America, and I fully expect to pull him one day. Regardless, his money and exposure is a huge plus for this niche little sport.
