I like propranolol, short half life and you can control the effects/sides better, dose higher when needed and less when not. Never did well on any longer lasting or time release beta blockers. Too many sides and exercise intolerance.
I started metoprolol in my 30's at 50mg for bp, my issue was more about my heart rate so it worked well. Over the yrs I've gotten up to 200mg of ext release which is the max dose. The immediate release doesn't work for me. That with 12.5 hydro and my bp stays at 130 / 70. I've tried lysinopril, which is not a beta blocker, and it had no effect. I've heard alot of bad things about it from people I know who have tried it. Most notable is the constant coughing.
