The width of your hands is a personal thing where your comfy, people with longer arms tend to use wider grip on the bar. I like my hands slightly wider than my shoulders. What is important is the angle of your elbows in relation to your sides as you lower the bar to your chest. I'm a body builder but I use power lifting technique when benching to protect my shoulders.

Super wide grip flares your elbows putting all the stress on the front shoulders and rotator cuff. Not the best idea in the world.

I go middle finger or ring finger on bar ring. There's a lot more to it then hand position when talking about stress on the shoulder girdle.

Competition Grip is pinky on rings, so I use that for my heaviest work sets. However, I use medium to close grip for the other 90% of my training.

I go wide with my thumbs outside the rings, as I have rather long arms
