I kinda started this in another thread but didn't want to hijack.

I bench to improve my overhead. I only close grip bench.

Should I be actually concerned with proper technique ?
I do stick and lock my shoulders. My wrists are good . I'm definitely working my triceps.

Now I'm not arching. I'm not using my legs.
So seeing as my concern is tricep work is there a logical reason for me to work on technique ?

Always.... you can always work on technique to better your lifts.

You don't use leg drive and that's ok but you should still have your legs planted so you have a solid base created to bench off of. If you want to hit your triceps even more I'd suggest adding chains to your CGBP.

My thoughts, yes. So many shoulder injuries are from the bench, flaring, rolling elbows out. Not worth the risk when good form limits injuries

I would think staying tight, tucking and driving your heels would be very essential to getting stronger by helping you be more explosive and stable which = more weight on the bar.

BI has a good suggestion there with the chains.
I would also weigh in that yes definitely worry about your technique, I wouldn't so much be focused on it in a traditional way but specifically things that effect the shoulder. I know you said you lock your shoulder so your taking some notice of it but I would do a lot of research in to the actual anatomy itself and learn where it hyperextends, where damage is being done and the natural movement of that particular joint because I know its going to be very very bad for the rest of your training if you have a little twinge or injury. Just my two cents

Well since bench has little carry over to overhead press I wouldn't worry.

You might do better to just floor press. Less shoulder damage.

Close grip benching has brought my overhead up quickly so close grip has carry over.
I guess I've always just not been concerned with getting my legs into it
It makes sense though more weight = stronger triceps

Absolutely agree that's why I suggested floor press. Just knocks out the shoulder rotation and gets you all the benefits.

Although now that I think about it.

Trex arms + huge boobs = no ROM on flat bench

I found that different that CGBP has increased your OHP. I've always noticed that when my OHP increase all my benches increase.

POB gave you a great suggestion... floor press. It's great for the triceps.

Ok so dumb this down. Why is floor press better than cgbp? I'm curious. I've never done floor press in mah life.
