Wonder if there might not be someone here who might have some insight into what might be causing an issue with my back. MRI scheduled for end of month so hoping it might shed some light, but Xrays have not. Serious pain when standing for more than 10 minutes, but if I hold onto something I'm fine to stand or walk for hours. The pain starts as a tightening of the mid back and then goes into stabbing pain with contraction of the diaphragm. If I sit or lean on something for a couple minutes, it goes away only to return after returning upright. I believe this started a bit more than 1.5 years ago with consent pain regardless of what I was doing. Turns out I had a couple ribs that were popped out for about a year, a cyro I went to see puts his hands on my back and pressed, a loud pop echoed in the room and the constant pain was gone, I thought I was fixed. I'm feeling like fuck, my workouts have suffered severely lately worrying about pain. I've passed over jobs that I know will tax my ability to stand, causing some financial concerns. I can go into greater detail if any one is interested. I have a meet in 14 days, and my bench is a big pill of shit, but I'm going anyway.

I definitely feel you pain having some pretty bad backpain myself. But to answer your question would only be guessing. It's best that you get that MRI done next week and come back and let us know what is going on. Good luck!

I know, I was just hopeful that someone here might be a back specialist and have some thoughts on my issues, after of course I provided a shit more info. I'll report back, haha!, after the MRI.

I struggled with a diagnosis last year with my back/rib pain. I went to the sports ortho who ran an MRI, came back with no issues. Started looking more, found slipped rib syndrome, setup an appointment with a thoracic surgeon, had a CT and nothing. Pain was terrible, I found walking with a shopping cart when we were out really cut back on the pain, but I was 2 doctors in with no results. My chiro really thought it was a slipped rib, finally went back home to see an ortho I trusted, 2 disks out. You'll need to wait for an MRI to see if what if anything they find. Get a copy of the disk and look for yourself. My symptoms are radiating pain around my ribs, sometimes down my legs. It can affect my breathing when it really flares up. When talking with Dr's they are usually baffled about the herniation, it's super rare because it's not in a load bearing area of the body, about one in a million are the odds for a T disk to go out. This makes 7 disks to go out on me.

Back pain will drop any man on his knees. I've been lucky there but I know other people that have not been so fortunate.

The X-ray won't show any soft tissue damage so wait for the MRI. An MRI can even miss things depending on where the slice is taken. If you're not happy with your Ortho, get another opinion. That's no way to live.

Post back with the results.

The shopping cart is a life saver. I can walk for hours as long as I'm holding something. As for the breathing, I was terrified the first couple times it happened. I literally had a panic attack, I couldn't breath and thought I was gonna die. The worst part was I couldn't yell out for someone and I couldn't move, I thought I was dead. It took about 10 minutes of really shallow breaths and focusing on them for the pain to subside enough for me to move to a chair and finish recovering. Scary shit. I'm not gonna say I'm some kind of supper human dude, but I've dealt with some serious issues with pain and never have I ever been ready for death then what that happened. I rode a bike home after having an accident where my collar bone was just about to pop out of the skin, not even close to the pain in the back. I feel like a pusssy when it hits, because I can't do anything. Its debilitating.

Have you gotten any relief, or prognosis on a fix/repair?

I have tried everything they have said to try, shots, PT something called spinal decompression, nothing has resolved it, only chiropractic has helped lessen it for a few days, then it creeps back in. My first go around with it, I flipped a pancake, it about dropped me to my knees, I moved to a chair and told my wife she had to finish cooking. Then I laid in bed trying heat and ice, she suggested the chiro and we went up, one pop and I could breath and stand up, just like that. He pulled on my waist while pushing my "floating" ribs. I can get SOME relief eating tramadol, prednisone and Flexeril each night. The flip side is they all tear up your insides. I have an appt in December with a neuro to look, he's higher than average on doing thoracic disk surgery which i why I picked him. The trade off is waiting 4 months for the visit.

Yah I do the cyro every once and awhile for temp relief. Sending good vibes your way for a path out.

I call the shopping cart my walker. I always get to push the shopping cart. Hopefully you find out what is going on soon.

Frustrating part is putting your faith in the process, getting your hopes up, and then after diagnostics (x-ray, MRI, etc.), they find nothing. Radiologists fuck up, too, along with the doctors, so you can't always depend on an accurate and thorough read of your imaging.

So MRI is in. Chronic compression fractures of T7-T12. Diffuse low marrow signal on T1 Weighted imaging. DD includes Anemia and marrow infiltrative disorders.
Multilevel endplate degenerative changes to the mid and lower Tspine.

SO, should I stay off the bench until this has a better diagnostic? I have a bench only meet Sat and I'm hoping to hit a 190kg bench. Thoughts?

So 9 cortisone shots in my back allowed me to compete pretty much pain free for the most part. I was able to hit my goal of 417.5 and walk away from the bench without needed to be carted off.
Not sure what the next steps are, but....
