I have 2 dogs. One is an old coot but her brother is about 3 and a nosey bastard.

We have the wireless electric collars but sometimes the battery dies or if he spots any game, he'll run through it. We live in the woods without many other homes around. We're not in the middle of nowhere but the closest home is about 600' away.

Has anyone used these air tags for their dog? It seems from my research that you need other iPhones around and somewhat close for them to work.

Any input would be helpful.

They do "bounce" off of other peeps phones, I used them on some things in the past, they have their place but that would be definitely the urban setting.

Since I am still stuck in the 80s, I am not up on the technology. Anyone have an idea of the range it needs to another device?

it uses bluetooth so the longest range bluetooth have is class 1 and thats 100 meters or 328 feet.
So not suited for dogs in the wood. Works better for dogs in the hood.

Thanks brother

Sounds like you know your shit.

Well if that's the case, would it be correct to assume if someone had an Iphone and was looking for the dog and came within say 300' of him, it may ping?

I listed the longest range of bluetooth but the Apple air tag is not class 1 and its range is very short something to like 33 feet.
There are similar products to the Apple air tag that has longer range but the range isnt that long either.
I would look at the competitors vs Apple for range.

If I remember correctly the the Tile Pro has the longest range and I think its 400-500 feet, its also IP68 (I think) meaning its water resistance up to a certain depth rated.
Just remember neither of them are made for your usage but could maybe work.

You really need a GPS tracker I think. They are not that expensive or that big.

Good suggestion. From what I can tell, the tile pro doesn't require a subscription, is that correct?

2 for $60 seems like a cheap answer to my problem even if it's not balls on accurate

My understanding is that basic service is included but they have a pro version that shows you longer tracking.
Never used them, im in IT and a client asked for something like that a while back. So this is just from top of my head.
I might be totally wrong.

I think I'm going to grab my balls and jump. I'll post up after so you have a reference. Maybe take him for a walk and check it. He loves rides on the 4-wheeler. That's a way to get him back sometimes. I fire it up and he'll come running
