I've read that NAC can has chelation properties, and that long term use can lead to iron, zinc and other metal/mineral deficiencies. Do people take NAC for long term use, or is used during/immediately after running orals?
Tommy I have been using it continuously for years, except like I mentioned when I run orals and just inject glutathione instead. I have not seen any iron deficiency, but I am also the genotype that produces a high amount of RBC. I actually try and limit my iron intake to the best of my ability, which is hard AF being an open bodybuilder.

Thanks. Good to know. I think my RBC is typically right at the high side of the normal range as well.

I've been taking NAC for years. Haven't included Glycine though, so I may pick some of that up and add it to the regimen.
Same for me, NAC but not Glycine.

I can't find anything on NAC and iron deficiency. Do you have a link?

I was reading a thread over on PM and several people were talking about this. Now I can't seem to find it.

What I did find indicated no consensus on whether it's a real issue, and whether the heavy metals at issue are the ones we care about. Chelation of mercury is a good thing, zinc not so good.

This is what I found. Not very persuasive IMO. In total, I think NAC is a net benefit, and likely not an issue at any reasonable dosing that we would do.

I also found this...

Key takeaway (IMO): NAC is used to treat acute heavy metal poisoning—e.g., against mercury, cadmium, or arsenic intoxication [13]. Even though this function is well established, there is only limited information on how NAC affects essential metals such as Zn and Cu. In a human intervention study, NAC (200 mg three times a day) application to ten healthy volunteers for 2 weeks did not affect plasma levels of calcium, magnesium, iron, Zn, and Cu [14].

It’s not a stable supplement that I buy regularly, but I use NAC when there’s a good sale on it. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties too.

Thanks Tommy. I use a basic mineral supp as well and extra mag on top of that. I definately feel better when I take the NAC and glycine as long as I take them regularly.
