Glad to see you back too, and sorry to hear about the turmoil you went through ... hate to hear about your mom and dad, and then having to sell the store as well. Damn.
I'm calling it, you'll be around 225/200/315 total in no time flat.
I commend your willingness to persevere through a tough training session, but sometimes forcing the training when you don't have enough in the tank for it - it just taxes both your body and influences the recovery for the next training session ... maybe take an extra rest day if your sleep and...
A small PR on my deadlift (206kg/455lb) at a weigh-in bodyweight of 123.2lbs/55.8kg. I had in mind to try and get 460-65 and qualify for the Arnold, but my squat and bench didn't go as planned, so I settled with just a small PR so I could get a PR, break my record in DL and Total for this...
Well I missed the Arnold Qualifier (1030) by twenty pounds. And despite not really feeling like I was going into the meet with the right mental and physical preparedness, I ended up getting tiny PRs in squat and deadlift, and total for 9-lifts.
Final numbers: 370 squat/185 bench/455 deadlift =...
Thanks guys. Sorry, I've been barely around - we've had some restructuring here at work that's been keeping me pretty busy. I would try to jump on the boards for a few minutes at a time, but would get interrupted before I could reply to posts, or update my journal.
My concerns about carrying...
Very cool that you are affiliated with my friend, Shaun's Law Enforcement brand. If you lived closer, you'd be competing on the team that I'm sort of overseeing/building here (under the same name) in SE Michigan, heh. Nice pulls, RR.
Awesome. I get the privilege of seeing the top two people on this list compete on a fairly regular basis. Both are great folks. And as such, you are in good company on this list. Congrats again on a great pull.
At AAPF Nationals, I opened with 315 but that was pretty conservative. I probably would have opened at 325. So it's a little heavier this time around.
Deadlift: Last Thursday, I pulled a probable opener of 435 on deadlift but I wasn't happy with the lockout. So I think I'm going to open more...
Just a fyi, I thought I had a rotator issue in my shoulder that sidelined my bench. But it now appears that it was some bicep tendonitis near the delt and after several days of rolling it, the shoulder and arm is feeling a lot better. Just wanted to let you know just in case it can save you...
It is cool. You got a great moment between grandchild, grandpa, and grandpa's flex'd bicep.
Nice write-up, Al. That was one of the longest (word-wise) articles I've read about a powerlifter in a long time. Nice to see that the subject matter and subject got so much ink.
I think seeing their beast of a grandfather at the deadlift competition fueled some PRs. It can happen. Train with lions become lions.
Enjoy these next two weeks of beer-fueled post-workout recovery.
Legs were still feeling it from last week's squats and pulls, but I worked up to my probable squat opener of 345 last night. The hammies were uncharacteristically tight, so it caused me to roll a bit coming out of the hole. But the weight still felt and moved like it should for an opener.
Less...
