Hey Brother Iron! I like that you are doing some strongman training! Do you plan to compete? Good for you, for adding it in. . . Ww.
No plans on competing. I still have years of school so that's always my focus... at least for the time being.
I haven't broken in my yoke yet but I will in time. I'm not sure I should make my Sunday's 3 SM events or keep them at 2. I guess I'll just have to try it and see...
My 2 cents: compete as a novice and don't worry about winning. You'll be surprised how much fun it is. Most competitions are on Saturdays, so it shouldn't interfere with school. The entry fees vary from $50 to $100 or so, depending on the show, and you get a tee shirt as part of the price at most shows. Sometimes the trophies are swords, battle axes or other fun stuff! The two major leagues are North American Strongman by Kalley Beck and US Strongman by Willie Wessels. I am in USS mostly though occasionally I compete in NAS. My coach says USS is where most of the strongest men compete, and NAS is where most of the strongest women compete.
As for you training 3 events on Sundays (we train on Saturdays), I found 3 events seriously taxing when I was first starting out, but now, 5 years in, I am not nearly so tired after training at least 3 and occasionally 4 events during our strongman Saturdays. I think if you start out with 2, then increase it to 3, and later increase it to 4, you will find that your body adapts. I would not go above three events regularly until you have trained strongman for a few years or until you no longer find 3 events to be seriously taxing.
