Five members of the Pasternak family of Newport have been sentenced for their roles in a large illegal steroid conspiracy which operated in the Johnson City area.

These five people all pleaded guilty in May to comprising to manufacture and distribute anabolic steroids, a Schedule III controlled substance, and conspiring to launder money.

According to authorities, the Pasternak criminal organization included 17 additional individuals who have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing. The scheme involved importing raw steroid powders shipped in misbranded packaging from china and other countries, which were converted to liquid, pill, and tablet form and marketed on the internet using the Incredible Hulk image and the name Hulkbody.

Customers then purchased the steroid products by sending money to Western Union, MoneyGram, and Walmart to Walmart Money Transfer using false identities. Over a three-year period, the Pasternak drug organization operated five different clandestine steroid labs in the Johnson City area, derived more than $2.8 million in criminal proceeds, engaged in thousands of sales transactions and involved a total of 22 co-conspirators. Officers found what is described as one of the largest clandestine steroids lab in the United States as part of the investigation.

In addition to sentencing and fines, the United States forfeited real estate, cars, and boats which were derived from the criminal organization or were used to commit the crimes.

Here is the list of those sentenced along with their ages and sentences:

Joel Logan Pasternak, 28: 9 years in prison, $2.8 million monetary judgement

Edward Stanley Pasternak, 59: 3 years in prison

Lori Pasternak, 52: 1 year and 1 day in prison

Edward Pasternak and Lori Pasternak were also ordered to jointly pay a monetary judgement of $100,000.

Upon release from prison, all three of these people will be on probation for three years.
Joshua Pasternak, 32, and Jared Pasternak, 23, were ordered to serve four days of intermittent confinement, followed by five years of probation. They were also ordered to pay a $10,000 monetary judgment.

Yeah POB, I think you're right. Also seems pretty dumb to scam another company's valuable trademark for illicit purposes. So now you don't only have the cops looking for you, but you have the parent company of Marvel comics (I think it's Walt Disney) doing their own investigation with the goal of turning over any information to LE.

Guess we can cross off Tennessee as a future retirement home state for LK
Don't know, never been there, just know there have been numerous busts out of TN over the past few years.
